Dearly Beloved: 100 Years Ago the Last Passenger Pigeon Died

This column by Great Plains Restoration Council founder & CEO Jarid Manos originally appeared in The Huffington Post to mark the 100 year anniversary of the Passenger Pigeon’'s extinction, which occurred in Cincinnati at 1 p.m. exactly 100 years ago today. The Passenger Pigeon is said to have been the most abundant bird to ever live.

We hope everybody is safe and well on this Labor Day.

And as always, thanks for caring about the Earth and the future. We have work to do!
