Star Party at the Fort Worth Prairie Park
In conjunction with
Saturday, May 4
7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Fort Worth Prairie Park.
The Dark Skies Initiative and Globe at Night are our focus for our first Star Party on the Prairie.
We are excited to announce that the NTTA has agreed to not light the portion of the Chisholm Trail Parkway that goes through this amazing ecosystem.
We will watch the sunset, look for new blooms and wildlife and settle down while darkness descends on the prairie.
Gates open at 7:30. Participants are invited to walk around, ask questions and see the stars by telescopes provided by the Fort Worth Astronomical Society. Experts will be on hand to answer questions about the project and the stars.
The event is a perfect way to end the day, low-key nature thera-prairie with a purpose, drawing attention to the problem of light pollution. Our results will be recorded with other citizen scientists around the world. Results will be posted online at globeatnight.org.
Bring chairs, water (no alcohol please), blankets and flashlights. Dress for the weather with closed toe shoes and long pants. We will provide red cellophane and rubber bands to adapt your flashlight. You may come and go as you please. Keep in mind there are NO facilities at the park, so you will need to leave the park for a restroom.
We are actively looking for volunteers to assist in events, fundraising, political awareness, and spreading the word by word of mouth and social media to friends, family, and government officials. Please contact us to let us know what ever level of involvement your schedule can handle.
