How to Keep Top Technical Talent from Leaving

R&D managers report tech talent retention as a top five concern year after year in the annual R&D Trends Forecast reports conducted by IRI.

Reporting on the research conducted by IRI members and RTM contributors over the years, IRI's Greg Holden explores the best practices in rewarding and retaining top technical talent in R&D organizations in IRI's Flashpoint, concluding that:

"Managers are on the front lines of this balancing act [retaining tech employees]. Know your people, know what they are good at, know what they are bad at, and know what they want. Successful retention of staff, technical or otherwise, starts with management."

Why IRI Members Struggle with Lean Startup

John Bacon

Detailing the most common mistakes and misapprehensions surrounding the implementation of lean startup in large organization's, John Bacon, CEO of iP2Biz, contributed great advice to IRI's membership in a guest article on IRI's Flashpoint.

His advice covers a range of areas, explaining why companies shouldn't depend on traditional marketing teams to drum up contacts and customers; why aggregating Lean Startup into the stage gate process is a huge mistake; and, how adherence to an existing business model kills most innovation, among many other nuggets of great wisdom.

Jules Blake

Jules Blake, IRI Board Chairman (1979-1981), passed away on the morning of December 2.

A long-time contributor and supporter of IRI and its diverse membership, Jules will be sorely missed.
