Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT)
To date, human trafficking has affected 21 million victims globally.  A $150 billion industry, it occurs in all 50 states and is still a prolific issue today. Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) is an organization that helps inform and train those in the trucking industry on the ways in which they can contribute to the fight against human trafficking. Through training, commitments with law enforcement as well as trucking companies, it is clear that TAT is dedicated to their cause.

Truck drivers are crucial in the fight against human trafficking. In most cases, they are the first point of contact when it comes to signs of criminal activity. Michelle Bishop, Programs Coordinator for Truckers Against Trafficking, sees truckers as part of the solution. Bishop states, "millions of industry employees travel and/or are based along all of America's highways and roads; they're trained to be observant; and they are already service oriented." TAT hosts a variety of programs for truck drivers to stay informed and help in the recovery of victims. This includes periodic Coalition Builds, The Freedom Drivers Project (48' mobile training exhibit), Shipping Partners Program and state-based initiatives. Trucking companies can also request a comprehensive DVD on human trafficking for in-house training for employees.

Truckers Against Trafficking has allied with hundreds of trucking organizations including: truck stops, trucking schools and every major national trucking association. Since 2009, truck drivers have made 1,464 calls into the National Human Trafficking Hotline which resulted in 452 probable cases of Human Trafficking involving 992 victims (270 minors). TAT is on a continuous mission to help people in the trucking industry stay informed through regular training, collaborated efforts with law enforcement, and having a partnership with the resources of the trucking industry to fight the criminal intent of human traffickers.

Truck drivers are in the best position to take note when something is amiss on the road. The saying, if you "see something, say something" is just as important today as ever and a simple phone call can make all the difference. For the best resources on how to help, TAT encourages people to stay informative through their website, truckersagainsttrafficking.com. If you or someone you know is suspicious that human trafficking is taking place they should make a call to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1.888.373.7888.
