Over the Road Drivers are the Backbone of America
There are times throughout the year when it seems that the economy has dried up and there are no companies shipping outbound. According to the Transportation Statistics Annual Report, there are 48.3 million tons of goods worth $46 billion that are moved on a daily basis.  According to the American Transportation Research Institute, there were approximately three million truck drivers employed in 2010 and 1.2 million trucking companies scattered across the United States. In 2014, there were approximately 2.4 million drivers.  It is the basic supply vs. demand principle. Fewer trucks with an abundance of available freight equals higher rates charged by the carrier. Many available trucks with few available loads equal lower compensation negotiation leverage had by the carrier. When relationships are established between the two parties, the risk of loss for both is greatly reduced. This is the middle ground where both the carrier and broker can turn a profit and grow as a whole.

It is our responsibility as a 3PL company to consider our drivers. Not only to compensate them fairly so they can make an honest living, but treat them with respect and dignity. Drivers are not just looking for loads from random brokerage companies, they are seeking a long lasting relationship which benefits both parties. It is in our best interest to use the same drivers on the same lane as often as we can because it keeps the rate consistent, reduces the chance of the driver getting lost, the driver builds a relationship with both the shipper and consignee, and the broker almost always knows what they will pay for a particular lane.

Allen Lund Company takes extra time to get to know our drivers and carriers. It is important for the survival of our company to build a long lasting relationship especially in a time like today when there are fewer truck drivers in the industry.  We take the time to learn about our carriers and the service they can provide to best suit our customer's needs.
