From the Show Floor
I was recently given the privilege of attending the 2015 United Fresh Expo at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. This was my first time attending the Expo; I was excited to experience all that United Fresh had to offer. In the past, United Fresh has teamed up with the Food Marketing Institute, but this year for the first time the show also included the International Floriculture Expo. This show lived up to its name and delivered high profile speakers like Chicago Bears NFL hall of famer Mike Ditka to Bob Mariano CEO of Roundy's Supermarkets. There were several general sessions that covered everything from new market trends to social responsibility and the hot button issues such as Organic and GMO's. On top of the great insight and education, it also offers one on one networking opportunities on everything from flowers and fresh produce to beverages and manufacturing equipment.
The show floor is where I spent a great majority of my time during the Expo on top of meeting some great people. It gave me a chance to sample new foods everywhere I turned, and gave me the opportunity to meet face to face with current customers and prospects. It also gave me time to walk the floor talking to exhibitors about their products seeing if they can benefit from the services of the Allen Lund Company or TMS solutions provided through ALC logistics. On the show floor you will find everything from National and Global brands to startups that are all trying to show the benefits of their products to get them in the hands of the right people.
People are the story at United Fresh and with over 1,000 combined exhibitors and over 13,000 attendees the opportunities are endless on and off the show floor. The common theme I came across was excitement. The exhibitors were excited to talk about their product or service. The attendees were excited to be out of the office or warehouse and on the show floor getting to network with others in the industry. I loved the energy the show brought, it's really hard to match when such a large group gets together that has passion about their product and service.
United Fresh may be over but plans for 2016 are already in the works with plans to return to the Windy City for another great Expo. Chicago is truly a great host city with no shortage of legendary restaurants, it also offers one of a kind sightseeing and shopping all within walking distance. United Fresh continued its tradition of donating more than 39,000 pounds of produce to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, truly a great way to give back to the community.
