The City of San Antonio is famous worldwide for the Alamo, the River Walk, and the 5-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.  It also boasts one of the country's oldest local transportation-oriented trade groups, the San Antonio Transportation Association.  Since 1921, SATA has continuously met and pursued its goal of education, or as its primary charter states, "To stimulate interest on the part of the public in traffic and transportation matters."

The Association thrives by being a diverse group of businesses, from trucking companies, distribution warehouses, freight brokers, railroads, industrial property developers, air cargo operators, local government representatives, educators and students, and just folks who are interested in things that roll or fly while carrying cargo or people.  It is this diversity that makes SATA monthly meetings fun to attend, along with being a good opportunity for people and businesses to network.

The programming committee is always finding interesting speakers to provide insights and education in transportation.  So far this year we've had speakers from a regional seaport experiencing tremendous growth caused by newfound oilfield developments to the CEO of the local food bank.

The Association also sponsors two golf tournaments and two bowling tournaments each year, with the proceeds going to college scholarships that are awarded to members' students each May.  SATA also helps fund students in the logistics program at Palo Alto College to attend a national competition in Denver each year, as well as making sure Blue Santa makes his appearance every December. 

In recent years, Allen Lund Company has performed a leadership role at the Association, and company representatives have long served on its board of directors.  One beloved and respected member was Adah Ginevra, who was retired when she passed away earlier this year.  Adah was an active promoter of SATA in the business community, and her longstanding work on the scholarship committee remains dear in the heart of many members who fondly remember her.

After 93 years, the San Antonio Transportation Association is still going strong.  The original visionaries who founded the organization would barely recognize the world of logistics that we live in today, just as we today will find the faraway future vastly different.  All we can be certain about that future is that SATA will still be a vibrant and prospering organization, and it will still be educating its members about the world of logistics around them.

Nicholas Wingerter is CEO of Truck Safety 1, a San Antonio based consulting firm specializing in trucking safety and regulatory compliance.  Nicholas is well known in the industry for improving the safety performance of motor carriers.  He specializes in establishing "safety culture" and driver training programs, fixing noncompliant companies, and presenting seminars for businesses and public education.  He also publishes "Turn Signals", a highly regarded and nationally distributed monthly newsletter on trucking safety and regulatory news.

Nicholas has an A.B. Degree from Duke University in Management Science.  He currently serves as Director Emeritus of the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Director of the Truckload Carriers Association, and President of the San Antonio Transportation Association.
