staffStaff Changes at AIPP

Adios, Jean!
Our best wishes go out to Jean Graham, who is leaving AIPP after many years of bringing to life public art throughout the City of Austin. She has served the program and the arts community with passion. Her career in the arts has been lively and diverse, and as an artist with an MFA in ceramics, her metaphor for retiring is refiring!

A Message from Jean:
After first joining the AIPP program in 2000, I am excited now to be moving on to my next creative phase. It has been a privilege to work with so many talented artists, collaborating professionals, city staff, and community members in the course of managing both public art commissions and the first seven years of the People's Gallery. There was never a dull moment. I have seen the program grow and wish it well into the future. Thank you and vive l'art!
Congrats, Meghan!

We're happy to announce that Meghan Wells is moving from her position as AIPP's Program Administrator to her new role as Manager of the Cultural Arts Division. Meghan will oversee all Cultural Arts Division programs including cultural funding, Art in Public Places, the People's Gallery exhibition, and creative placemaking and economic development initiatives.

Meghan brings over 18 years of professional experience in the cultural arts and nonprofit fields. For the past 11 years, she has worked within the Cultural Arts Division for the Art in Public Places program; first as a project Coordinator and, since 2010, as the program's Administrator.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

Golden Afternoon by Urban Matter Inc. is now in fabrication and will be installed on the 3-story wall in the stairwell of the Seaholm Redevelopment parking structure (near Trader Joe's). Here you see some of the steel flower forms, which are based on floral geometries of Texas wildflowers.

Fiber optics with LED lighting are being assembled and tested now, and once installed, will be responsive to the presence of the viewer, by changing color when someone approaches the installed sensors. The installation will be completed by mid-March.
