TEMPO 2015
The intent for the 2015 edition of AIPP's temporary art program, TEMPO, is to cultivate curiosity, spark imagination, foster work by local artists, engage the community in a meaningful public art dialogue and cultivate tourism. A Request for Proposals went out in March 2015 asking for site-specific, short-term artwork or time-based performances in designated areas of Austin, including parkland spaces, libraries, streets and bridges, right-of-way, and other sites to be determined. To see all the TEMPO 2015 projects, click here!
Earth Mother by Yuliya Lanina
Where: Ramsey Park, near Rosedale Ave. and 44th St., Austin, TX 78756
When: October 1 - November 31
Yuliya Lanina's Earth Mother symbolizes fertility and motherhood, motifs that appear often in mythology. In the artist's words:
"Like the parents who watch over their children playing in this natural setting, Earth Mother, with her awe-inspiring scale and her serene countenance, is sited so she is watching over all who come to the park to revel in her creations."
The sculpture is planted with Blue Plumbago, Creeping Myoporum, Autumn Sage and Mexican Feathergrass. (For more on this artist's work, see Art After Six below!)
-----------------
Los Balcones by Yareth Fernandez
Where: Bull Creek Park, 6701 Lakewood Drive, Austin, TX 78731
When: October 2, 2015 to January 8, 2016
Yareth Fernandez's Los Balcones refer to Spanish explorer Bernardo de Miranda y Flores' characterization of the limestone in Bull Creek Park as balconies. The three multi-layered, abstract, geometric shapes are inspired by the limestone rocks found in this park. The sculptures are intended to spur community exploration and discovery in an unexpected environment. (For more on this artist's work, see Art After Six below!)
