Coming Soon - Hello Lamp Post: Austin
| |
In celebration of Austin Art in Public Places program's 30th anniversary year, AIPP is commissioning an award-winning temporary public art project to run February through April 2015.
"Hello Lamp Post" (HLP) is a city-wide platform for play that invites people to strike up conversations with familiar street furniture using text messaging. The project launched in Bristol, UK, in 2013 to major success with thousands of residents and visitors sharing stories with streetlights, parking meters, mailboxes, and bus stops. The Austin project will be the first time that HLP has been launched in the United States.

What's truly unique about this project is that it is not tied to one physical location or neighborhood, so residents and visitors can interact with any object they choose in any part of the city. In addition, we believe that the data collected--which objects people talked to, what they said, which geographic locations got the most play--will reflect the voice of the citizens and provide insight into how we interact with the built environment.
