Colorado Streetscape
Installation of Crystalline, by Dharmesh Patel and Autumn Ewalt, was completed last month. The artwork consists of four polished stainless steel sculptures along Colorado Street, between 3rd and 7th streets. The artists have been commissioned to continue the project from 7th to 10th streets and will begin working on design this summer.

Artists' statement: "The polished stainless steel sculptures mirror the surrounding architecture and street life creating a literal representation of the identity of the city and its inhabitants. Each multi-faceted sculpture is site-specific, uniquely designed and placed to reflect dynamic aspects of each location. Viewed from different perspectives, the pieces highlight multiple angles of the streetscape. These sculptures invite the interaction of the viewer, enhancing the downtown experience for pedestrians of all ages."

Bartholomew Municipal Pool
Artist Casey D. Cooper is finishing up the installation of his Blue Gate this week at Bartholomew Municipal Pool, located at 1800 51st Street.
In the artist's words: "This gate was fabricated using a process of inflating steel. Everything within the piece was carefully considered based on location.
The wave-like motion created due to the bends and the color are representational of the water within the pools behind."
Save the Date!
There will be a dedication of the pool improvements, including the artwork, on Saturday, June 14. More information to come! Sign up to receive Art in Public Places special events notices here (you can update your profile through this link).

Ewalt's proposal image
| Ewalt's installation explores the random, or not so random, nature of natural phenomena by creating a light show at dusk mimicking the light patterns created by fireflies. View video here.

Using small batteries and arduino microprocessors, one thousand LEDs will be lit and timed to mimic the light pattern of a firefly. Every evening for two weeks, the work will create an atmosphere of wonder and beauty for 90 minutes, beginning at dusk.
Join us to experience the artwork and salute the accomplishments of all the TEMPO artists!

Created from parallel segments of plywood, Juan Deleon's sculpture,
Frozen Flow, captures a moment in time by reproducing the shapes of ripples on the water. The "frozen" waves are meant to inspire viewers to think about natural and man-made forces on the environment, especially regarding our scarce water resources.

Housing Choice Survey: Why
do you live where you live?
Austin residents and commuters are invited to weigh in on housing choices. Austin residents and people who commute to Austin for work or school are invited to participate in a Housing Choice survey. The City of Austin seeks to understand the decisions people make when choosing a place to live, work and go to school, and how those decisions may change over time.
We want to hear from the creative community!

Next Level Workshops
What Works / What Doesn't Behaviors of Successful Artist Entrepreneurs
When: May 20 and June 11, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Where: Cultural Arts Division offices
201 E. 2nd Street (SE corner of Brazos and 2nd streets)
What do artists and entrepreneurs have in common? Everything. Artists, just like traditional small business owners, have to wear many hats--creator, fabricator, accountant, marketer, technologist, and more. And, just like traditional small business owners, artists can find this to be a daunting task. Through their work with over 500 artists, Artist INC has identified the common behaviors of successful artist entrepreneurs. In this workshop they'll share those behaviors and leave you ready to apply them to your own art practice.
