What's the land development code? Why does it matter? And why should you, as an artist, get involved?

  •  Keeping Austin affordable, maintaining neighborhoods, developing transportation options, and helping businesses thrive are all goals of the code revision. What are your goals?

With CodeNEXT, the City of Austin is rewriting the Land Development Code to sustain the Austin that we love while shaping our future.

  • The Cultural Arts Division is providing this special session to gather input from the creative community as it relates to the rewrite of the Land Development Code and the Development and Review Process.

Don't miss your chance to shape future changes in the code! Light refreshments and free parking provided.

Coming Soon: Fractal Tree

Artist Paul Sorey will soon install Fractal Tree, a stainless steel sculpture approximately 25' tall, which is being donated to the City of Austin by Cirrus Logic, to stand outside their building at 800 W. Sixth Street.

From the artist's statement: "The tree is a mathematically generated fractal: each part of the tree is an identical copy of the other parts, scaled and rotated in space."  This artwork will become part of the City's Cultural Heritage collection, which currently contains 157 artworks.
Surface finish detail: hand-finish with a grinder gives an allover texture of wavy lines.
The artist is scheduled to install the artwork November 21-24. If you are curious, see more of artist Paul Sorey's work here.
