Project Spotlight
Fidencio composite
Composite self-portrait by artist Fidencio Duran, repairing one of his murals.
The murals at Parque Zaragoza Recreation Center received a major freshening up recently from artist Fidencio Duran, who patched up holes, repainted damaged areas, and cleaned off nearly 20 years of dirt and scuff marks.

Duran created the murals in 1996 for the award-winning recreation center. Located in the entrance hall and community room, the vividly colored paintings depict the history of Austin's Mexican American community, the founding of Parque Zaragoza in the 1920s, and neighborhood festivals Diez y Seis and Cinco de Mayo.
