You may access your ASAPP! profile until June 1. Artist information currently stored on the ASAPP! system won't be transferred to PublicArtist.org.

The features of the PublicArtist.org system will streamline the application process, offer more options to the end-user, and provide better quality presentation of the visual submissions to the selection panel.  As always, it is free to apply to any AIPP Call to Artists.

Project Spotlight
Artist John Christensen Releases a Bale of Turtles in Austin's New Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metropolitan Park
Artist John Christensen was commissioned to design a number of elements for the City's soon-to-be-opened Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metropolitan Park, a 365-acre park located on the south shore of the river, just east of Longhorn Dam.

The playground features several artist-designed play elements in the shape of turtles. Christensen chose to emphasize the turtle because of the park's close proximity to the river, which is home to a booming turtle population, and because of the park's mission to educate visitors about Austin's riparian ecosystem.
Christensen fabricated four turtles of cast concrete, a material that will allow for years of climbing and playing by Austin kids.
Smaller turtles are used as capitals at the entrance wall to the playground and pavilion.
Working with the project design team from the outset, Christensen also designed other amenities for the park, including a memorial plaza dedicated to Roy G. Guerrero, which features a pavilion and gazebo, seen in the background in the photo above.

Stay tuned for information on the upcoming dedication of this new addition to Austin's public art collection!
