Please come visit the 2012 People's Gallery exhibition, which  features over 150 artworks from Austin-area artists, galleries, museums, and art organizations displayed throughout the first three floors of City Hall. Austin City Hall is located at 301 W. 2nd Street.

The exhibition this year includes an installation of "The Mona Lisa Project" by photographer Rino Pizzi in collaboration with 16 women artists, a grouping of works celebrating the life of Damian Priour, and many fine examples of Austin's visual art talent!

*****
Congratulations to Shawn Smith, whose sculpture titled Vicious Venue, has been added to the permanent art collection at City Hall  The work is perched high above the main floor of City Hall - visit the work by going to the second floor and looking over the lobby on the south side of the building.

2011 People's Choice Winner
Smith's sculpture depicts three life-sized vultures recycling outdated technology. Two of the vultures devour a rotary telephone, while the third tackles a film canister. Derived from digital images, the vultures are built of small cubes of wood, carefully arranged to give the appearance of a three-dimensional pixelated image. The artwork is composed entirely of found objects.

Meghan TurnerI am excited and pleased to officially announce Meghan Turner as the Art in Public Places Administrator for the Cultural Arts Division, EGRSO. She has been serving in this capacity for over a year and has excelled in management of the program - bringing a fresh perspective along with efficient and creative approaches to management of multiple ongoing CIP projects, requests for artwork donations/loans, preservation of the public art collection, as well as innovative public and educational programming for Austin's creatives.

Prior to her time with the City of Austin, she worked with the public art programs at Texas Tech University and Alameda County, California.  Prior to her career in public art, she served as Policy Director for the Missouri School Boards Association and Director of Development and Outreach for the USS Hornet Museum.  She has a B.A. in English and Political Science from Rockhurst University, and an M.A. in Museum Science from Texas Tech University.
