We are sending you this edition of the Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) newsletter to let you know about the latest activities of AIPP as well as upcoming opportunities!   

The People's Gallery
2012 Opening Reception

Hope to see you tonight, Friday, February 24 from
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at  the People's Gallery Opening Reception! 

 

 The 2012 People's Gallery exhibition features over 150 artworks from Austin-area artists, galleries, museums, and art organizations displayed throughout the first three floors of City Hall.

The exhibition this year includes an installation of "The Mona Lisa Project" by photographer Rino Pizzi in collaboration with 16 women artists, a grouping of works celebrating the life of Damian Priour, and many fine examples of Austin's visual art talent!
Peoples Gallery 
Enjoy live music and refreshments, generously provided by Whole Foods Market! 
  • The People's Choice Award ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers
  • Short films from the Faces of Austin collection will screen in Chambers beginning at 7 p.m.

Design Waller Creek: A Competition 

Local Participation Outreach Invitation 

Tuesday, February 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at the  

Palm Door at 401 Sabine Street

The Waller Creek Conservancy is hoping to facilitate community and professional involvement in Phase II of Design Waller Creek: A Competition by seeking local designers, engineers, contractors, and other interested professionals to join the lead design teams in this process.  

 The Waller Creek Conservancy is playing a vital role in the design of Waller Creek from Waterloo Park to Lady Bird Lake and are sponsoring Design Waller Creek: A Competition to bring fresh, clear thinking from the best design talent the world has to offer. Design Waller Creek: A Competition is entering Phase II, with nine lead design teams selected from a talented pool of 31 submissions.

Dedication of Arboreal Passage by Colin McIntyre

Friday, March 9 at 3:00 pm 

Austin Nature and Science Center at Zilker Park  

This artwork marks the entrance to the newly renovated Austin Nature & Science Center with two forged steel archways inspired by native trees of central Texas.  The artwork also consists of three benches made from found wood and a forged steel frame for the facility sign.

CORRECTION

Correction to Austin Art In Public Places  Projects Completed in 2011
Margaret Heffernan was inadvertently left off of the artist team credited with producing the  "Reading Chair" at the McBeth Recreation Center. The credit should have read: "The Reading Chair" by Margaret Heffernan, Michael Heffernan, Sara Twaddle and Faith Schexnayder.

AIPP is part of the Cultural Arts Division within the City of Austin's Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office.
