Another Satisfied Donor!
Dear ReStore,
Just wanted to say thank you for the two nicest men who came and quietly and professionally took the freezer, table, chairs, DVD tower and Salton electric hostess cart away. I will recommend to all my friends that they call you to donate, these two men are great ambassadors for Habitat for Humanity!
Thank you and Happy 4th of July!

From The Director

Greetings!
At Habitat NoVa, we feel very blessed to have many enthusiastic volunteers who contribute in a variety of ways. Besides arranging furniture at ReStore or building a new deck at A Brush With Kindness project, Habitat NoVa has volunteers who use their brains instead of brawn to benefit the organization through leadership on our board of directors or membership on one of our committees.
Habitat NoVa is expanding our Faith Relations Committee. Spiritual partners are important to Habitat's call: to provide simple, decent, and affordable housing to those in need. Houses of worship in Northern Virginia have partnered with us spiritually and financially in our affordable housing mission - of giving a hand-up, not a hand-out. Read more about the Faith Relations Committee duties online.
If you or someone you know is interested in helping with this mission, please contact our Faith Relations Officer, Myrtle Washington at mwashington@habitatnova.org or 703-521-9890 x102.
Please enjoy this combined July/August newsletter. Check your inbox in September for an exciting progress report on the Douglass Avenue build and to meet the new staff and Americorps members!
Thank you for your support!
Rev. Jon Smoot
Executive Director
P.S. I hope you reserve October 6th to join us for our Fall picnic!

Volunteers Build Up and Tear Down
The US Army Chief of Staff's Office Strategic Studies Group spent 2 days volunteering with A Brush With Kindness, to benefit a Burke, VA homeowner. The group did extensive brush removal, built a deck, and made the homeowners property livable. Read more about their day on page 19 of The Connection newspaper. Do you have a group interested in volunteering? Learn more about group workdays on our website..

Venable at Clayborne
A team from Venable LLP recently prepped our Clayborne Avenue property in Alexandria for building two new homes in the future. Habitat NoVa purchased the property, but it needed work to fall within Fairfax County regulations prior to starting to build. Volunteers cleaned the yard of debris, trimmed shrubs and pulled weeds. They also removed a 25-foot fence, demolished a shed and removed items from inside the home.

Community Build Day at Saguaro Place
Thank you to all the great community volunteers who came out to the July build day at Saguaro Place! We are renovating this property, and the group did extensive drywall removal along with installing doors and trim.

Many Ways for Faith Communities to Help
Dear Habitat Herald,
Our church is looking for volunteer opportunities, and we would love to help with Habitat for Humanity projects! How can we get involved?
Sincerely,
Holy Helpers in Herndon
Dear Helpers,
We would be honored to have your church group involved with Habitat NoVa! Currently, Habitat NoVA is building a new home in Falls Church, renovating a home in Centreville, and in pre-construction mode for two new homes in Alexandria. In addition, we operate two ReStores, one in Alexandria and one in Chantilly. All of these activities require community support - financial and person power, and we have many different ways for your church to be involved:
Sponsor a build day. As part of sponsorship, you bring a group to build at one of our construction sites. More information on sponsorship is available on our website.
Bring a group to volunteer in one of the ReStores. Our ReStores rely on volunteer help to unload donations, organize merchandise and assist customers. The stores are a significant revenue stream and directly support our programs and home builds.
Build Financial Support. Hold a fundraiser within your community to benefit Habitat NoVA. Groups have held bake sales, car washes, row-a-thons and more to raise money to support our builds. We can assist you with materials to support a fundraiser.
Bring food to a build site. This is a great option for youth groups who are not old enough to do construction (minimum age for build site volunteers is 16) or for groups who want to support our mission. Our construction volunteers greatly appreciate the lunches that are provided by supporting groups!
Donate or sell land to Habitat NoVA. If your church or temple, or any of its members, has land to donate or sell at a discount, we are grateful recipients and will use the land to provide more affordable home ownership in our community.
We have additional ideas on how our Faith Partners can support Habitat NoVA's work on our website. If you would like to discuss partnering with Habitat NoVA, please contact our Faith Relations Officer, Myrtle Washington, at mwashington@habitatnova.org or by calling 703-521-9890 x102.
Thank you again for your interest in Habitat NoVa! We look forward to working with you soon.

We Love In-Kind Donations!
Habitat NoVa would like to express our gratitude to DC Permit Solutions, for providing pro bono permit expediting services at the Saguaro Place and Clayborne projects. The company's owners are experienced permit expediters who recently opened their own company to focus on the unique needs of the DC metropolitan area. We want to recognize the pro bono engineers Charles P. Johnson & Associates, Inc. in Fairfax, and Lukmire Partnership architects in Arlington who got the Douglass Avenue project off to a great start, thank you! Many thanks to our friends at Easy Bins for donating a Dumpster for our July community build! In-kind donations are vital to Habitat NoVa. Thank you to Red Hot & Blue for providing a selection of delicious side dishes for the groundbreaking event at the Douglass Avenue build site!
