From The Director

Greetings!

 ED for Habitat for Humanity

2013 is off to a busy start at Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia!

I am impressed that more than 90 people turned out for the Douglass Avenue homeowner orientation, evidence of the need for affordable homes in northern Virginia.  Our Family Selection Committee is now reviewing applications for our next Habitat Homeowner.

This month, we're looking for volunteers for a new Breakfast Committee, and a newly combined Development and Marketing Committee.  Committees play a significant role in the administration and oversight of Habitat for Humanity NOVA's activities.
  • The Breakfast Committee seeks volunteers to be responsible for organizing a fundraising breakfast, hopefully to be held in the fall. It's a perfect opportunity for people with event planning experience.
  • The Development and Marketing Committee oversees resource development and marketing plans and makes recommendations to the Board.  The committee seeks volunteers with fundraising, marketing, PR or communications experience.

If you are a good match for either of these committees, please email Peter Larson, Director of Development at plarson@habitatnova.org for more information.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Rev. Jon Smoot, PhD.

Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia

Upcycle, Support Habitat and WinSpringBuild
Can you spot a diamond in the rough? Join the Ultimate Upcycle Challenge! This year, Habitat for Humanity NOVA ReStores are partnering with the Home + Garden Show for a fun contest.

Contestants get $100 of ReStore credit to source a household item from Habitat for Humanity ReStore (Alexandria or Chantilly), and then repurpose the item.  Before and after photos are used for an online vote of the best item.

The grand prize is a $500 Visa Card.

All entries will be prominently displayed at the Washington Home & Garden Show
, Mar. 22-24 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and then returned to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for sale, with profits supporting Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia's programs.

Home Repairs for Falls Church Homeowners
Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia received a grant to help City of Falls Church residents in need of home repairs.  Using volunteer labor, affordable financing and discounted contractors, Habitat for Humanity is able to help homeowners with important home repairs like roof replacement, siding, fences, handicap accessible ramps and more.  Help your neighbors in need and let us know if we can help.   Find out more on our website or email Romana Sanchez.
