During the period of "Insurrection" (1677-1680) the director of the imperial kilns Zhang Qizhong issued an edict forbidding potters to use the imperial nianho. It was issued to prevent any enemy of the the emperor to prevent the sacrilegious act of breaking a piece with Kangxi's mark on it. After 1682, the use of the mark became more common. During this prohibitin the use of Ming marks remained a common practice.
