COMMUNITY SYMPOSIUM ON A

CIVILIAN POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY COUNCIL

Called by: The Chicago Alliance Against Racist and  Political Repression

Hosted by: Trinity United Church of Christ

WHEN: 11am - 2pm, Thursday October 16, 2014

WHERE: 400 W. 95th Street, Chicago, IL 60628

Come join us as police crime survivors, community members and activists assess where we are at and where we need to go in terms of building a broad, united all inclusive front against police crimes and the intensifying drive to turn our country into a police state, that will brutally crush and attempt to destroy all progressive, democratic movements for justice, equality and peace.

So long as the police stalk our communities like a foreign military power, putting us under a state of siege, we are deprived of the organizing space we need to fight against austerity budget cuts and to fight for jobs, housing, education and health care. In a few words: AGAINST OUR RACIST OPPRESSION. Read full statement here

The specific focus will be stopping police crimes in Chicago...

How do we stop the Chicago police from terrorizing our neighborhoods from racial profiling, murdering and torturing our communities? ... By fighting for a systemic change, by demanding community control of the police where cops are held accountable for their crimes and communities control policing policies and procedures. How do we get there? ... The message of the Chicago Alliance's CPAC campaign is that we must empower the people to put CPD under community control, that we must demand an elected Civilian Police Accountability Council.
