Rabbi's Message

3/4/15  -  13 Adar 5775

Purim Sameach / Happy Purim!

Purim officially begins tonight, but we'll be celebrating as a community this Saturday beginning at 5:00pm. We'll start with an abridged, interpretive Megillah reading, and take it from there. I'll be wearing my finest dress, heels, and jewelry and I encourage the rest of you to not make me feel like the only bozo in a costume!

While our Purim team has done an excellent job preparing to carry out our Purim party, we still need help in a few arenas:

1)   We need a few more volunteers to bake hamentashen before the event.

2)   We need a handful more of willing thespians to agree to receive character instructions during the megillah reading and do some on-the-spot improv.

3)   We need more help with set-up (4:00-5:00) and clean-up (probably 7:00-8:00).

If you can help with any of the above (or would like to be involved in another way), please email me directly at [email protected].

Please note that we do have Shabbat morning services this weekend, as well - beginning with Torah Study at 9:00am and continuing with Shabbat Simcha at 10:00am (please bring a vegetarian potluck dish to share for lunch afterwards).

Have a joyous Purim and see you Saturday!

L'shalom,

Rabbi Joshua Boettiger

INNOVATION #7

Here is the seventh of a series of weekly announcements regarding innovations for TES's upcoming Casino Night and Auction fundraiser:

This week's Innovation is simply that our Invitation mailing has gone out to all TES members and a much larger than usual number of your friends and neighbors in the Rogue Valley. You may have even received your copy by now.

Talk it up with your friends to see if they got our Casino Night mailing, and if not, tell them that they can get their own invitation by simply calling the TES office at 541-488-2909 and asking for a copy to be mailed to them. Help TES by passing the word to friends and neighbors about Casino Night on April 18. Save them the drive to someone else's Casino!

Also, please visit www.MitzvahTES.com. You can register for the event online this year and not even have to acquire and fill out a Reply Form.

Innovations from previous TES Weeklies:

Innovation #1: New category of personalized short messages available to Bronze sponsors of Casino Night ($100 contribution) in our event evening printed booklet & at www.MitzvahTES.com

Innovation #2: 1st Class private Check-in & Registration station for all Platinum/Gold/Silver Event Sponsors and their Guests.

Innovation #3: Special offer to early sponsors.

Innovation #4: Earn a free ticket to Casino Night 2015 with a successful idea for the live auction.

Innovation #5: Prizes available for gaming chip redemptions.

Innovation #6: Mini Mitzvah Messages for Casino Mitzvah Night's evening booklet available until March 8.

Message from Evie Strauss, co-chair of Social Justice Action Committee. re: Shabbat Simcha, March 7
The speaker for March 7 will be Cheyenne from the Maslow Project. I know you believe you know all about the Maslow Project, but have you met Cheyenne? Have you heard about all the new things they are doing? And besides, the "Maslow Basket" in the TES lobby is empty at the moment.  So come hear what Cheyenne has to tell you, and please bring something to put in the basket (socks, underwear, toiletries, snacks, etc.).  Thanks!!

Israel - Past and Present Through a Personal Perspective, March 15

TES Member Emanuel Ben-David will present, in the third of 3 gatherings, the story of Israel and the Israeli people from his own personal experience. To be held Sunday during Shul School on March 15th from 1:00-2:00pm.

Emanuel will examine the characteristics of the "typical" Israeli, (and by extension the country at large), through looking at some of the driving forces and origins of who Israelis are and how they came to be that way. He will do this through a broad review of the recent history (last 100 years or so) of the Jews in Israel and elsewhere.  The story will also be tightly connected to Emanuel and his family's personal experience. Once the foundation is established, he will teach on some of Israel's economic and technological successes.
