A Weekly Update on Ministry in Western North Dakota
In Mission Together . . .
It takes a community
Oaks Indian Mission in Oaks, Okla., has been serving the Cherokee community around it for more than two centuries. In 1801 the mission was founded by Moravian missionaries who walked the Trail of Tears alongside the American Indians who came to inhabit the area, and the town formed around it. Today the mission is run by Lutherans and provides a safe place for children whose parents, for a variety of reasons, can't provide a home for them. The mission works in conjunction with Eben Ezer Lutheran Church, an ELCA congregation undergoing renewal with support by the generous donations ELCA members make through their Sunday offerings.  More

LYO Challenge for World Hunger
Dear Congregations,

Do you remember the challenge we issued to your students at the end of the LYO Gathering last October? That challenge was for them to go back home and host an event to raise awareness and/or funds for God's Global Barnyard, or some other sort of world hunger program. We would like to hear back from your congregation on how your congregation has been raising money and how much you have raised.  We will create a display at our fall Gathering that will share the amounts reported by congregation youth groups and the grand total that we have raised together over the past year.  If you participate in this challenge, please send an email to Beth Anderson at [email protected] to report your total.

Sincerely,

Douglas Winzenburg,
WND Synod LYO President
