Have Respect for
Your Coaches

Although a parody, this computer-animated video illustrates conversations many coaches have had with parents. Enjoy its humor, but also listen to the underlying message.

vsa union
U11 Union celebrate after receiving trophies for winning their SJSL division.
VSA would like to thank everyone who came out to the awards' nights. We had a great turnout but realize not everyone was able to make the event.  Here are some highlights:

Hall of Fame Inductions
The following individuals were added to the VSA Hall of Fame for playing soccer 12+ years in the VSA Program:
  • Okxana Cordova-Hoyos
  • Bella Tierce
  • Leah Fendrick
  • Dominic D'Agostino
  • Brian Laine
  • Hornets, Instructional Division, with Head Coach Richard Massaux

The following coaches were added for their 10+ years of coaching:

  • Rich Lockwood
  • Jim Schade
  • Andy Spirt

Referees of the Year

Playing soccer is a tough sport.  Even tougher is being a young referee and having to deal with some difficult situations.  Two referees in our intramural have been awarded with the VSA Referee of the Year Award:

  • Miranda Altringer
  • Zach Jacobs

Three Coaches Receive SJSL Award

Each year South Jersey Soccer League (SJSL) asks coaches to nominate other coaches who have displayed the best sportsmanship during the 2012 season. Three Voorhees boys teams' coaches have been honored with this year's award: Brad Blumberg, U9 Avengers; John Deitelbaum, U10 Comets; and Ed Eichen, U12 Arsenal.

Congratulations coaches on your award and representing VSA!

Trainer Highlight - Shannon Kelly

As part of a continuing series VSA will routinely profile one of the top level professional trainers employed here in town. This issue's  trainer is Shannon Kelly.  By Jim Schade, Director of Coaching. shannon_kelly

Over the years with the VSA I've listened to the dreams of many a young soccer player. The Recreational players dream of playing travel soccer. I tell them I know people who have done that. The Travel players dream of playing at Eastern. I tell them I know people who have done that. The Eastern players want to play in college and maybe beyond. I tell them the same. A few love the game enough to make it a profession and complete the cycle by giving back to the young at the beginning of the journey. I know people who have done that.  If you roll all these people into one, you have Shannon Kelly.

Having grown up in Voorhees, played at Eastern HS and went on to be Captain and MVP of her college team in North Carolina, Shannon has  lived the dream the young in this area desire. Best of all, she's decided to stay in the area and share her knowledge and abilities with our children. Shannon has spent 7 years along side of Eastern Varsity coach Steve Kosyla in the Voorhees CER program and coached at Camden Catholic HS. Now in her 4th year with the VSA and boasting an impressive record of player development she is clearly one of the rising stars in the soccer training community.

VSA Health Series:

A concussion can have long term impacts on young athletes such as their health, memory, learning and even their survival. This has lead to a new effort to improve prevention, recognition and response to sports-related concussion.

What Are Common Symptoms?
