From The MGA
We need ONE MORE TEAM for the Desert Classic. The Desert Classic is April 6th though the 9th and we need one additional team to fill our flights. If you have a friend nearby who would make a good match play partner and you want to play, contact Jeff or Justin in the Golf Shop and they will get you all the details. Chairman Bob O'Roark and his committee have done an excellent job securing sponsors for this years event and with the additions to the activities, it should be the best Desert Classic ever.
The 2016 MGA Club Championship is in the books and Chris Bates is the 2016 Tonto Verde MGA Club Champion. Chris posted rounds of 78 and 72 to take this year's crown at 150 gross. Chris beat Don Holliday (77 and 74) by one stroke. Davis Elliot took the Championship Flight Net Score with a 144. First Flight winner was Pat Echelbarger at 157 gross and Steve Radermacher took the net at 142. Second Flight gross was Bill Banholzer with 159 and Harry Holden was the net winner at 138. Third Flight went to Harry Ward at 161 and Bob Buhler took the net at 138. Fourth Flight winner was Ken Adams at 167 and Tom Spaeth took the net at 146. Fifth Flight was won by Ron Zinke at 170 and Bob Fletcher was the net winner at 143. Sixth Flight winner was Keith Stott at 175 and Tim Gabrielse carded a 142 net. The Seventh Flight was won by Lee Hamilton at 181 with Marty Robertson at 144 net. Click Here to sign up for the March 30 Breakfast Meeting and Golf Event on the Golf Event Registration Tab. There are still points available to get into the MGA Cup On April 18th. As of today 17 points is the cutoff to get in, but that will change with the remaining points that are still available. Remember, the Desert Classic is a guaranteed 2 POINTS with a BONUS POINT if you can win your flight. If you are close, sign up for the Desert Classic. We will be playing for $6600 cash in the MGA Cup, all participants are guaranteed a minimum of $50 by playing both days. Did you know it is against the rules to brush the sand/gravel away from behind your ball when you are in the desert? Rule 13-2 states you may not "create or eliminate irregularities of surface . . . OR removing or pressing down sand, loose soil, replaced divots . . . ". You may pick up individual stones that are in front of or behind your ball, but you cannot "sweep them away". Just something to remember in your next Spring Best Ball Match or the upcoming Desert Classic and MGA Cup.

Marketing Update
Marketing is pleased to report increased visits from interested and active prospects:
- The Tonto-On-Display Community Open House tour on February 13 brought 200 visitors to the community. Everyone received information on the new February Golf Membership Sale and a $20-off coupon to use in the Mesquite Grill. The great news is that several Realtors reported that visitors from the tour scheduled appointments to return to Tonto Verde and look at properties.
- The Discover Tonto Verde program is now booking "Discover Day" packages at Tonto Verde (since the 4 day/3 night Discover package is booked for February & March), and Realtors are reporting very engaged and interested prospects looking at ownership in Tonto.
- The Hospitality Committee has a fabulous Lobby Greeter Success Story! Thanks to a friendly Greeter who gave a tour to a "lost" visitors on Sunday, Valentine's Day and recommended they stop in at the "Realtor-On-Duty" Open House, the visitors made an offer on a home 2 days later! Without a Greeter in the lobby to catch this visitor, the opportunity would have been lost.
If you have just 3 hours a month to share your friendly smile and welcoming style by working as a Greeter in the Clubhouse Lobby, the Hospitality Committee would love to have you! Please call Pam Halpern at 480-223-2748 for more information.
Tonto Verde In the News (summarized from the blog on the Tonto website)
The 2016 Preview issue of Arizona Golf Insider magazine recently featured Tonto Verdes Mesquite Grill in an article written by Carey Sweet, food and wine writer for the Arizona Republic, San Francisco Chronicle and Scottsdale and Sunset magazines. Click Here to read the review. In highlighting the seasonal cuisine of talented and experienced Chef Chris Falconer, Ms. Sweet zeroes in on many of the menu standouts that Tonto Verde residents know and love including the Verde salad, chicken corn chowder, Scottish salmon, prime rib and decadent mud pie. She also praised the upscale territorial look of the dining room and the al fresco terrace with its unforgettable view of Four Peaks.
In a separate article, this issue of the Arizona Golf Insider magazine also mentions Tonto Verde as one of the 20 courses in Arizona awarded the coveted GEM (Golf Endorsed by Members) award. Click Here to see the article. Given by the Arizona Women's Golf Association (AWGA), this award is given based on data collected and compiled by AWGA members across the state. The objective is to select courses that provide a great golf experience for women in Arizona. The criteria include customer service, playability, clubhouse facilities, and restroom availability. (Note: this is the third year in a row that Tonto Verde has earned this coveted honor.)

Golf Clubs And Putters For Grandkids
The TV Lending Closet and the TV Golf Pro Shop have teamed up to provide your grandchildren with golf club sets for their use and enjoyment during their visits here in Tonto with you.
The clubs, made especially for youth by US KIDS GOLF, are height and weight appropriate. The sets currently available will fit youth from 39' tall to 63" tall. The Golf Shop has a measuring guide which will insure proper fit.
Because we have a limited supply of the clubs, both right and left handed, we are asking that they be checked out daily and returned daily to the Golf Shop (similar to the Demo Program) rather than once weekly to the Lending Closet so that there is availability for the next young golfer.
We also have a supply of putters, separate from the sets, for use on our Putting Course - also available on a daily basis through the Golf Shop. Watch for information from the Golf Shop regarding Junior Golf Camps here at Tonto Verde during schools spring breaks!

Charity Roundup Recap
$100,000 of eFun at the 2016 Tonto Verde Charity Roundup
Over $100,000 was raised for VerdeCares, Arizona Alzheimer's Consortium, Arizona DAV and Sunshine Acres at the March 3, 2016 Tonto Verde Charity Roundup. The objective for the event was to raise as much money as possible for the four charities and to make sure all the participants had a ton of fun doing it.
And fun we had. As in prior years, the event consisted of golf scramble and best ball events, silent and live auctions and a terrific dinner. But there were lots of new ways to have fun this year. First, was a transition to electronic bidding where anyone from the community could bid from their smart phones or tablets from anywhere. While a few folks tangled with the change, the majority of the attendees enjoyed it and placed 600 bids from all around the clubhouse, the course and their homes. We also had a Golden Ticket raffle in which the winner got to select their choice of the live auction items. Congrats to Bob and Phyllis O'Roark on winning and selecting a Hawaii condo for a week. The live auction was the liveliest ever with over $35,000 raised due to 11 donations by generous community members. The bidding on the Green Bay Packer suite, donated by the Gabrielse's was one of the most fun to watch as the winning bid was for $6,500 and then Tim and Kris donated a 2nd package for another $6,000.
The golfers had something new this year as well. We had a break the glass event on the driving range. There was a wood box with a 3-foot square sheet of glass on the top, and only one person, Marsha Heitzman, was successful in breaking it. Additionally, Van Buick/GMC put up a Buick Enclave as a prize for a hole-in-one on the Ranch hole 15. Congrats to Don Cooke for getting a hole in one that day but he picked the wrong hole by knocking it in on #7. He did, however, receive a very nice consolation prize. Also, congratulations to the winners of the golf events. David Dyer, Janet McGee, Monique Wright and Kirk Naismith won the scramble with a score of 55.7. Steve Hamann, Jan Hamann, Larry Holden and Sally Storey won the best ball event with an amazing 116.
Those of you who were there know it was a great event with a terrific outcome for the four charities. It could not have happened, however, without a lot of help. Special thanks to Bob Buhler and the many ropers who solicited the silent auction items, Dave Burns who solicited and auctioned off the live auction items, Tom McGuigan & Mark Bloom for soliciting 15 corporate sponsors, Liz Brandanger for entering all the silent auction items into the BidPal software system, Donnielle Ostlund and the golf staff and dozens of other volunteers, and, finally, to Steve Peterman & Lynn Casebere for their tremendous support with the facility, food and beverage and administrative support.
Please put the 2017 event on your calendar, as it will be another fun way to support our local charities.
