Happy May from Lakeview Pantry!

As the weather warms and summer approaches, we are seeing a surge in activities and events at Lakeview Pantry, and we ask you to join in on the action.

In this month's newsletter we are introducing two new segments that you can expect to see from Lakeview Pantry regularly. We are debuting our 'Community Features,' as well as spotlighting our 'Community Involvement Updates.' With the increase in community fundraisers, partnerships, and events, both our Features and our Updates will become regular highlights in our newsletters, our blog, and our social media. 'Community Features' will showcase a longer, more developed story about an event or happening at the Pantry, and 'Community Involvement Updates' will provide quick insights into our daily behind the scenes activities: you can expect to see pictures of larger donations or brief stats about what's coming through the Pantry.

Along with these new additions, this newsletter will provide you with the details to upcoming Community Events, as well as announce a new first-time event that we are hosting!

With all these fun contributions and events coming from the community, it's obvious that Lakeview Pantry flourishes because of communal efforts and the teamwork of many organizations, volunteers, and donors. We could not achieve what we do without the contributions of our constituents, partners, and neighbors working together as a larger team to better the community. Join in on the action by reading more about our team's efforts, attending an event, and by donating now!

Sincerely,

Gary Garland

Executive Director

Community Feature: Donor Spotlight

Last month, we featured a spotlight on one of our previous clients, who was able to get help and find employment through the programs available at Lakeview Pantry. This month, our 'Community Feature' highlights the work of Dr. Max Masters, of Lakeview's own Knecht Chiropractic.

Dr. Masters donated his professional time to the Pantry by hosting an event at his chiropractic office. The following is a story comprised of quotes from his interview about his partnership with Lakeview Pantry, as well as a look into how his work benefits the Lakeview community overall.

Even in giving background information about Knecht Chiropractic, it is clear from the beginning of Dr. Masters' words that his practice is grounded in the ideas of community, partnership, and teamwork. He describes, "At Knecht Chiropractic Clinic our patients always come first. We give the highest quality care to all of our patients and strive to give the best service everyday.... Ours is a teamwork approach. We believe the patient deserves individual attention to his or her particular needs. We work together to achieve this goal."

Community Involvement Update: 1800 Pounds of Pasta!

It's hard to picture what a donation of 1800 POUNDS of pasta looks like, so here's our best shot.

This photo shows one package of pasta, and 14 boxes containing those smaller packages. The entire donation included 76 boxes, far too large to get in one good photo!

This huge donation was from The Athenian Room, an awesome partner of ours who donates every year. They also deliver their huge donations, making our lives much easier! Thanks guys!

Education and Advocacy Spotlight
Education and Advocacy recently put out a new publication on diversity in Lakeview. This piece functions much like an op-ed, or a more academic thought piece, and we are very excited about this new and expository format.

Check out, "Why We Don't 'Rock the Boat' in Lakeview" from our intern, Martia LaManna.
