President's Message

Hello Leaders,

Marybeth Berney
I hope that you are having an amazing summer. This sure has been a summer to "write home about" as far as sunshine and temperatures! Here at AMTA-WA we have been continuing to be busy this summer on behalf of you and all LMPs in WA. We are at the point in one of our projects where we need some feedback from you, the leaders on the front line. We are working on Branding some messages which includes word choice, tone, focus, etc. And I would like for you to take a look at what we have and let me know what you think. Do you like it, not like it, have additional ideas that you would like the Board to consider.
Here goes...

AMTA-WA: The Voice of Massage - we want this to represent and "feel" like...community, unity, belonging to, relating to, connecting with, collective.

Invest
- we want all MTs and massage profession stakeholders to invest in their personal future, the future of this organization, the future of the profession.

Proud
- we want all MTs and stakeholders to have pride in, be elevated by... the work that the chapter does, the profession and themselves.

Compelled - we want to make sure that we are communicating all that the chapter does for all MTs and the massage profession in WA so that MTs and stakeholders will feel compelled to support the organization.

Should we and how do we...remind members that they used to automatically pay a mandatory $30 chapter fee at each AMTA membership renewal. This is now NOT mandatory or automatic you have the option to support your local chapter at any dollar amount at any or multiple times during the year.

You are the eyes and the ears of this chapter. Please send me your feedback, comments and suggestions to president@amta-wa.org. Thank you for all you hard work and leadership on behalf of AMTA-WA :The Voice of Massage.

Marybeth Berney
AMTA-WA President

What's Happening at National Convention

September 17-20

 By Susan Cook

There are lots of good reasons to attend at least one AMTA National Convention. It is an excellent opportunity to take high quality classes, it is an unparalleled opportunity to mingle and network with fellow massage practitioners around the country, and it is one of the best places to find out about current trends and research impacting our profession.

Dr. Mehmet Oz
So what is happening at the Convention this year in Denver to make it special? Dr. Mehmet Oz, Daytime Emmy Award-winner and host of The Dr. Oz Show, will be the keynote speaker at the opening session on Thursday, September 18th, 8:30-11 a.m. From his platform as a respected member of the medical profession, award-winning media personality and a prolific author, Dr. Oz supports non-invasive and drug-free health and healing practices. His presence at the Convention is sure to bring media attention to the event, as well as creating opportunities for him to interact with our community of massage professionals. You can find him in the Exhibit Hall for an hour following the opening session for a meet-and-greet and book signing.

Here are highlights of what else will be offered:

  • If you have ever considered being a Chapter Delegate, or attending Convention as a Chapter Leader, Wednesday before Convention starts is devoted to you. Meetings and breakout sessions are happening all day for Chapter Delegates and volunteer leaders.
  • First National Convention? Don't miss the First-Timers Luncheon on Thursday following the Opening session. It is conveniently held in the Exhibit Hall, so be sure to select this event when you register.
  • There will be an Opening Night Reception in the Exhibit Hall Thursday evening for a sneak peek at the products and exhibitors. This is a great chance to begin to network with people you have met. A great ice-breaker is exchanging Chapter pins; connect with your Chapter leaders to make sure you have some on hand to trade.
  • Friday, September 19th is Student Day and also Teachers' Day, featuring separate education and networking events geared for students, recent grads and instructors.
  • Friday evening, our host, the Colorado Chapter has arranged for special first-base, club level seating at Coors Field to watch the Colorado Rockies take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tickets are $65.
  • After a couple of days in classes, you'll be ready to cut loose with the Dinner Dance on Saturday, September 20th. Semi-formal evening attire is encouraged. Be sure to buy an additional ticket if you will be bringing a guest.

Loads of other amenities are available to you during convention, including on-site massage, table rental and storage, a quiet room when you just need to decompress. And of course the exhibitors and sponsors you can find in the Exhibit Hall-find nifty products, learn about upcoming classes and techniques, make business connections and keep your practice in the know and out in front.
