From the Director's Desk

In the Church today, there are those who wonder if collaboration leading to greater co-responsibility among all of the baptized is worth all of the time, effort, energy, and prayer that it may require. There are also those who believe that the gifts and charisms of another that come from the Holy Spirit will not fit into a pre-determined way of doing things or will change the status quo.
St. Vincent Pallotti understood that collaboration or "holy cooperation," as he called it, is not simply about our personal activity, but is done in collaboration with the Holy Trinity. We can learn from the communion found in the relationship of the Trinity. God invites us into this relationship, into collaboration, and we are invited to be in communion with God and with others. St. Vincent Pallotti models for us this spirituality of communion, particularly in his relationship with the soon-to-be Blessed Elisabetta Sanna. Many would have rejected her for a variety of reasons, particularly her disability. Instead, Pallotti saw much in her and invited her to be one of his first collaborators in the work of the Union of Catholic Apostolate.
In this edition of our newsletter, we share with you the collaboration of St. Vincent Pallotti and Elisabetta Sanna, as well as how the Union of Catholic Apostolate and Catholic Apostolate Center are still living this vision of greater collaboration among laity, those in consecrated life, and clergy.
May the Charity of Christ urge us on!

Beatification of Elisabetta Sanna
|
|
|
|
The beatification will take place at 11:00am at the Basilica of the Holy Trinity of Saccargia in Sardinia. The solemn Eucharistic Celebration will be presided over by His Eminence Cardinal Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
Elisabetta Sanna was born in 1788 in Sardinia. In 1807, she married Antonio Porcu. The couple had seven children when Antonio died in 1825. After a failed attempt to visit the Holy Land on pilgrimage, Elisabetta found herself in Rome unable to return to home to her family due to illness. In Rome, she visited the sick, knitted to raise money for the poor and orphans, and prepared the sick to receive the sacraments. She also sought to bring peace to families and to convert sinners. She participated in several Masses each day in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Elisabetta died with a reputation of sanctity in Rome on February 17, 1857 and was buried in the Church of San Salvatore in Onda. St. Vincent Pallotti, founder of the Union of Catholic Apostolate, the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottine Fathers and Brothers), and patron of the Catholic Apostolate Center, had been her spiritual director for 18 years and regarded her highly. Soon afterwards, the recognition of her holiness became very evident, so much so that in just four months, on June 15, 1857, her cause for beatification was initiated. We invite you to spend some time learning more about Elisabetta Sanna by clicking on the resources below.

Union of Catholic Apostolate and Society of the Catholic Apostolate Resources
"The Catholic Apostolate, that is, the universal apostolate, which is common to all classes of people, consists in doing all that one must and can do for the great glory of God and for one's own salvation and that of one's neighbor." - St. Vincent Pallotti
As we prepare to commemorate the beatification of Blessed Elisabetta Sanna, the Catholic Apostolate Center invites you to learn more about the Pallottine charism and spirituality that was the driving force behind Elisabetta's holy life.
On January 9, 1835, St. Vincent Pallotti founded the Union of Catholic Apostolate, in which the baptized participate collaboratively and co-responsibly in the mission of the Church as apostles of Christ. Inspired by his motto, "The Charity of Christ urges us on," the Union of Catholic Apostolate as well as the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottine Fathers and Brothers) work throughout the world to further the Church's mission to renew faith and rekindle charity. Elisabetta Sanna was one of his earliest collaborators and will be first lay member of the Union of Catholic Apostolate to be beatified.
The Catholic Apostolate Center is a ministry of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate - Immaculate Conception Province. Our mission--to revive faith, rekindle charity, and form apostles--is deeply rooted in Pallottine spirituality.

Prayer and Catechesis Resources
" Catechesis is the act of handing on the Word of God intended to inform the faith community and candidates for initiation into the Church about the teachings of Christ, transmitted by the Apostles to the Church." - USCCB
On September 18, 2016, the Church in the United States will celebrate Catechetical Sunday. The theme this year is "Prayer: The Faith Prayed." All the Baptized are called to be catechists, disciples who pass along the truth of the faith, whether they do so formally or informally. On Catechetical Sunday, the Church is reminded of the universal call of each of her members to evangelize, catechize, and form apostles.
As the Church prepares to celebrate Catechetical Sunday, the Catholic Apostolate Center invites you to revisit our
