Ongoing Formation Resources

With World Youth Day (WYD) 2016 officially over, and plans for World Youth Day 2019 in Panama already underway, many of you may be asking, what now?

At the Catholic Apostolate Center, we believe that pilgrimage is an ongoing, universal, and a central component of our faith. WYD is simply one powerful expression of what it means to be part of the universal church. While WYD is geared towards young adults, it is an event that has lasting repercussions for the Catholic Church as a whole (as WYDUSA Coordinator Paul Jarzembowski wrote about here).

Though WYD 2016 is over, our work at the Center continues. Through our variety of formation resources, we invite all pilgrims--whether international, local, or digital--to integrate their experience and return from the mountaintop as missionary disciples. Let us use this powerful experience of WYD to launch apostles on mission ready to share and multiply their encounter with Jesus Christ!

WYD Bishop Interviews, Pilgrim Interviews, and Scenes from Krakow
The Catholic Apostolate Center has collaborated with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) World Youth Day Office to create a series of videos preparing pilgrims for WYD. These videos feature USCCB staff, bishops, Center Director Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C. and WYD leaders offering tips and guidance how to get the most out of the WYD experience.

On-the-Ground Coverage and Live Updates on Social Media

The Catholic Apostolate Center sent staff member Sarah Jarzembowski to Krakow for World Youth Day 2016. Sarah provided us with on-the-ground coverage, photos, interviews--including an interview with Wanda Gawronska, President of the Association of Pier Giorgio Frassatti and niece of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassatti--and footage that the Center used to
bring the comprehensive WYD 2016 experience to our followers
across the globe.

The Catholic Apostolate Center will continue to use our various social media platforms and online resources to help pilgrims integrate their WYD experience and become missionary disciples of Jesus Christ.

Krakow in the Capital

The Catholic Apostolate Center was honored to be a Platinum Sponsor of Krakow in the Capital, which drew over 1,000 young adults in the DC-area to participate locally in World Youth Day 2016.

Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C. gave a brief welcome at the Opening Prayer Service. He, along with other Pallottines Fr. John Ndidi Nwaocha, S.A.C., Fr. Łukasz Gąsiorowski, S.A.C., and Fr. Vyacheslav Grynevych, S.A.C., concelebrated at the closing Mass with Donald Cardinal Wuerl. The Catholic Apostolate Center staff participated in the Stations of the Cross service and exhibited in the exhibit hall.

Coming Down from the Mountain
"We hope that our best selves will continue to live and witness to the love and mercy of Jesus." -Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and Archbishop of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville
In today's blog post, Archbishop Kurtz explains the importance of coming back down the mountain after World Youth Day (WYD) and how fitting it is that the Church celebrates the Transfiguration this week.

Apostles on Mission 2016

"We all have the fire burning within us to share the joy of knowing Christ. Now I have the skills and understanding to bring that fire to those around me!" -2015 Apostles on Mission participant

The Catholic Apostolate Center, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Washington's Office of Young Adult Ministry, has created the initiative From Practicing Catholics to Apostles on Mission to give young adult Catholics the tools and experience needed to be evangelizers to their families, parishes, and communities.

Our fall offering of Apostles on Mission begins on September 19th, 2016. Registration is now open for Catholic young-adults in the D.C. area.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Feast Day: August 15th

On November 1, 1950, Pius XII defined the Assumption of Mary to be a dogma of faith: "We pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma that the immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory." -American Catholic
