A Patron of WYD 2016: St. James the Apostle
Feast Day: July 25th
"Over the centuries, pilgrims have followed in the Apostle's footsteps to his final resting place in Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. The road to his tomb, called the Camino de Compostela, has been a model for pilgrims for generations - and continues to be an inspiration for all those on pilgrimage, including those en route to World Youth Day." -WYDUSA
- James the Apostle was the brother of John the Evangelist.
- James and his brother John were called by Jesus as they worked in a fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee.
- James was one of the favored three who had the privilege of witnessing the Transfiguration, the raising to life of the daughter of Jairus, and the agony in Gethsemane.
- Tradition holds that James was the first of the apostles to be martyred.
- James is the patron saint of Chile, Laborers, Nicaragua, Rheumatism and Spain.
