Faithful Citizenship Resources

His Eminence Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington, presenting a lecture entitled "Problem in American Citizenship" at The Catholic University of America.

"We need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern." -Pope Francis, September 16, 2013

As Catholics, our faithful citizenship enables us to live more fully the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, as well as protect the dignity of each human person--especially those on the margins of society. Religious freedom, therefore, serves the common good.  As Archbishop William Lori of the Archdiocese of Baltimore noted, "What is important is not simply that we have rights, but that we exercise them responsibly and out of love for others."

From June 22nd until July 4th, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) invites dioceses around the United States to highlight the importance of religious freedom through an initiative called the Fortnight for Freedom.

Whether in the United States or abroad, the Catholic Apostolate Center invites you to learn more about religious freedom and faithful citizenship by clicking one of the resources below.

                        St. Junípero Serra

Feast Day: July 1st

Join the Catholic Apostolate Center in commemorating the Feast Day of St. Junípero Serra!

"Father Junípero Serra was the embodiment of 'a Church which goes forth,' a Church which sets out to bring everywhere the reconciling tenderness of God...He learned how to bring to birth and nurture God's life in the faces of everyone he met; he made them his brothers and sisters. Junípero sought to defend the dignity of the native community, to protect it from those who had mistreated and abused it...

Father Serra had a motto which inspired his life and work, not just a saying, but above all a reality which shaped the way he lived: siempre adelante! Keep moving forward!" -Pope Francis, Homily at the Canonization Mass for Junípero Serra

St. Junípero Serra, pray for us!
