From the Director's Desk

"Our challenge today is to build on those solid foundations and to foster a sense of collaboration and shared responsibility in planning for the future of our parishes and institutions" (Pope Francis, Homily at the Basilica Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, PA, September 26, 2015).

Collaboration and shared responsibility, or co-responsibility, are necessary elements in today's Church. Not simply in ministry, but in apostolate as well. All of the baptized need not only to recognize their sharing in the mission of Jesus Christ, but also live this mission in daily life. The work of the Catholic Apostolate Center arises from this understanding, which was central to the spirituality of St. Vincent Pallotti. His charism is embodied in his foundation, the Union of Catholic Apostolate (UAC), which today is an International Public Association of the Faithful composed of thousands of laity, those in consecrated life, and clergy in 54 countries around the world. Whole religious communities are part of the UAC, including my own community of priests and brothers, the Society of the Catholic Apostolate.

"Collaboration from the beginning" is essential for the life of the UAC, but it can also be for the life of the Church. Without effective collaboration and true
co-responsibility, we will not be able to fulfill the mission that Jesus Christ has entrusted to us. Developing greater collaboration and co-responsibility does not take away particular roles and good leadership. If anything, they enhance the fruits that come from the charisms of individuals combined for the good of Christ and his Church.

May the charity of Christ urge us on!

Collaboration in Ministry Resources

What does Pope Francis mean by the phrase "changing business as usual"? It does not mean throwing out church teachings or discarding our tradition. The change called for by the 2012 synod on new evangelization refers to a "move from a pastoral strategy of maintenance to a pastoral position that is truly missionary." Pope Francis, in words and actions, lives this movement and draws others into the shift. He calls for change in a co-responsible and collaborative way. Our work for the Church would not be possible without this collaboration.

Corpus Christi

Feast Day: Second Sunday after Pentecost (May 29th)

"The Eucharist makes present the Covenant that sanctifies us, purifies us and unites us in marvelous communion with God.

Today, the Feast of Corpus Domini, we have the joy not only of celebrating this mystery, but also of praising Him and singing in the streets of our city. May the procession we will make at the end of the Mass, express our gratitude for all the journey that God has allowed us to make through  the desert of our poverty, to take us out of slavery, by nourishing us with His love through the Sacrament of his Body and the Blood." -Pope Francis, Homily for Corpus Christi (2015)
