Lenten Reflection Guide 2016
"[Jesus] asks us to move beyond our moral absolutes, our hasty judgments, and our hardened hearts. He quietly suggests turning our gaze inward, and considering all the times we ourselves have fallen short, tripped up, did something wrong...We drop the stones from our hands, and contemplate forgiveness instead."
This Lenten season, the Catholic Volunteer Network and Catholic Apostolate Center invite you to spend these forty days with the four pillars of faith-based service. This Lenten Reflection Guide is a collection of reflections written by current and former volunteers. They share how the experience of full-time service has helped them to see the story of Christ's death and resurrection in a new light.

Jubilee of Mercy Portal
As we continue celebrating the Extraordinary Jubilee, the Catholic Apostolate Center invites you to revisit our Jubilee of Mercy Portal. This year has at its center the mercy of God. After commencing on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, this Jubilee Year will conclude on Sunday, 20 November 2016, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.
Pope Francis has spoken throughout this year on the importance of living mercy. In his Apostolic Journey to Mexico, h e spoke of "the God who has a name: Mercy." We are all called to live God's mercy in a deep and radical way throughout this year. One way to do so is by practicing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
As Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C. noted in the last newsletter, "God's mercy and love are offered not just for a moment, but forever. Lent is a perfect time to experience again God's mercy and live well the works of mercy."

Fifth Sunday of Lent
March 13, 2016
Sunday Reflection
"Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." -Jn 8:1-11
In today's Gospel reading, we hear the story of the woman caught in adultery. The Pharisees come to Jesus angrily to test his response. Jesus does not become riled up or lose his calm, but pointedly says the statement above. One by one, the Pharisees walk away. Alone with the woman, Christ says to her, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin any more."
Once more this Lent, Jesus is showing us the merciful face of God. As Pope Francis said, Jesus "was pure and could have throne the first stone". But he "went beyond this. He doesn't tell her that adultery is not a sin, but he doesn't condemn her with the law." This is "the mystery of Jesus' mercy."
