Fr. Frank

The manger scene is prepared here in the chapel at the Catholic Apostolate Center.  All that it needs is the Christ Child to be added on Christmas Eve.  The empty manger causes us to pause in wonder of what the Father has done for us all by sending the Son as Savior of the world. The message of the angels to the shepherds announcing his arrival is the same message that we are meant to proclaim, that Jesus Christ is Savior of all.  We are called to believe in him and share this Good News in whatever way we can. As people around the world gather together in churches and homes to celebrate Christmas, may we reflect well on what we are called to do:

"Above all else, this is what Christmas bids us to do: give glory to God, for he is good, he is faithful, he is merciful. Today I voice my hope that everyone will come to know the true face of God, the Father who has given us Jesus. My hope is that everyone will feel God's closeness, live in his presence, love him and adore him" (Pope Francis, Urbi et Orbi, Christmas, 2013 ).

On behalf of the board, staff, collaborators, and advisors of the Catholic Apostolate Center, may you have a Blessed Christmas and a good New Year!  You will be remembered by me at Masses during the Christmas season!

May the charity of Christ urge us on!

Upcoming Webinars
To welcome you into 2015, the Catholic Apostolate Center will be presenting a two part webinar series entitled:

Witness to the Gospel: Our Mission in the World Today

With the 40th anniversary of Evangelii Nuntiandi: this webinar series explores what it means to be an evangelizer and how we can live that out today.
  • January 7, 8:00pm: Jonathan Lewis, "Evangelii Nuntiandi: A Living Document for Evangelization in the Digital Age"

Pope Francis has called Blessed Pope Paul VI's Document on Evangelization, Evangelli Nuntiandi "the greatest pastoral document that has ever been written." As we celebrate its 40 year anniversary Jonathan will unpack key themes and discuss how it continues to provide practical insights into our call to be evangelizers in the Digital Age.

  • January 20, 8:00pm: Fr. Frank Donio S.A.C., "Evangelii Gaudium: Moving the Church from Maintenance to Mission"

In his apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis invites all to a personal encounter with Jesus Christ.  We are not to keep the faith to ourselves, but are sent as missionary disciples to transform the world to Christ. We are all called to be Spirit-filled disciples, not in a maintenance mode but rather a missionary one (Evangelii Gaudium,118-120,259-262). How can we accomplish this call to be a missionary disciple today?

Join our Director Fr. Frank Donio S.A.C. for this webinar which outlines Pope Francis's vision for witnessing to our relationship with Christ as missionary disciples today.

As always, if you are unable to attend we will have them on our YouTube and past webinar pages. If you would like to sign up for either or both of our webinars, please click on the link below!

The Family as Domestic Church A Prophetic Witness Against Rugged Individualism

Recently, the Catholic Apostolate Center recently hosted a webinar presented by Edward Trendowski, professor at St. Joseph's College of Maine, on the
Family as Domestic Church: A Prophetic Witness Against Rugged Individualism. Here is the description:

The recent Extraordinary Synod on the Family has garnered much attention. As a domestic church, a family can thrive when it is rooted in prayer and communal life, and when the family centers itself on the breaking of the bread (cf. Acts 2:42). The family can be a prophetic witness against the rugged individualism which is present all over the world. This webinar Edward J. Trendowski, Professor of Pastoral Theology from St. Joseph's College of Maine, will focus on practical ways that a Catholic family can be a domestic church and also offer ideas for individuals to contemplate which deeply affect family life today.

Marriage & Family Resources

"In your journey as a family, you share so many beautiful moments: meals, rest, housework, leisure, prayer, trips and pilgrimages, and times of mutual support... Nevertheless, if there is no love then there is no joy, and authentic love comes to us from Jesus. He offers us his word, which illuminates our path; he gives us the Bread of life which sustains us on our journey."

-Pope Francis in his February Letter to Families

God with Us
by Krissy Kirby
(originally published Dec. 18, 2014)

Today marks one week until a great man comes to visit us, bringing joy to all. Given the nature of this blog, I'm guessing you think I'm talking about the coming of the newborn Jesus Christ. But I'm actually talking about Santa Claus! The jolly old man himself, bringing loads of goodies on his sleigh to the girls and boys on his twice-checked list. Yes, indeed. What else is special about Christmas? It is interesting to see the secular meaning of Christmas intersect with the glorious birth of our Savior to yield a sort-of confused holiday. The world seems to forget that during this season of Advent when Catholics are preparing their hearts to welcome Jesus on the 25th, many are just preparing themselves to welcome elves and anxiety. This year in particular, I have had to take a step back from all the noise and busyness, and enjoy the peace and joy of this Advent season. Can we still find God with us? Read More
