#USCCB14

This past week, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops held its annual Fall General Assembly in Baltimore, at which they discussed several topics relating to the governing of the American Church in the 21st century.  They have also released the entire online version of the Catholic Catechism for Adults, an essential resource for learning and teaching the faith.

The Catholic Apostolate Center has a variety of collaborative efforts with the USCCB:

Over the last two and half years, the Center has been collaborating with the Bishops' Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis on the development and implementation of a print and online resource called "The Pastoral Planning Guide for the New Evangelization" which will be formally released later this year.

The Center also collaborates with the Campus Ministry Leadership Institute, a five-day training and working institute which gathers student leaders and campus ministers from across the country as campus teams. The institute, together with Empowered Campus Ministry, is designed to produce effective leaders who work collaboratively to develop and implement successful Catholic Campus Ministry programs on college campuses, both private and public.

Along with the bishops' Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family, and Youth, the Center will be co-sponsporing the Lay Ecclesial Ministry Summit on June 7, 2015. Our Director, Fr. Frank Donio will also be presenting at the summit on co-responsibility.

The Year of Consecrated Life

The Church's Year of Consecrated Life, declared by Pope Francis in 2013, will begin on the First Sunday of Advent, November 30, 2014, and last until the World Day of Consecrated Life to take place on February 2, 2016. The bishops of the USCCB are asking us to join them in prayer for vocations to consecrated life.

The National Conference for Catechetical Leadership is a national leader in Catholic religious education and development of catechesis in American education.

by Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C. and Barbara Humphrey McCrabb

The parish meeting room at 7 p.m. on a weeknight is a familiar scene: An adult faith formation session of some type begins, and the same ten people are present. They are the stalwarts who always attend everything. We might want to change this familiar story, but "we have always done it this way." Somehow we expect different results, even though we keep doing the same thing over and over. Change can be difficult. Read more
Collaboration at #CVNDenver and Dubuque

This past week, the Center participated in the national conference of our affiliate, the Catholic Volunteer Network. Our own Fr. Frank Donio and Monica Thom Konschnik presented on "Changing Business as Usual: The New Evangelization through Collaboration." In this presentation and in exhibiting throughout the conference, the Center provided collaborative ways to engage and empower parish staff and volunteers to explore and strengthen their faith. This came on the heels of the Virtual Graduate Fair and Fr. Frank's presentation at the Pastoral Leadership Study Day hosted by the Archdiocese of Dubuque, and about which you can learn more here.

If you want to learn more about speaking inquiries with the Catholic Apostolate Center, we are available to present, discuss, exhibit, and speak on many topics with relevance to the Church and the world today. If you are interested please feel free to view our Speaking and Media Inquiries page.
