Back to School: Prayer and Catechesis Resources
As we are now in the beginning of a new academic year, thoughts of school buses, college campuses, teachers and lesson plans fill the minds of many who teach, have children returning to school or are headed off to school themselves! These weeks also mark the start of a new year of faith formation classes in parishes across the country. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has even designated this coming Sunday, September 21st, as Catechetical Sunday. With this in mind, we wanted to share with you some various prayer and catechesis resources, that can be accessed digitally. Below is a sample of some of these resources, click here for a full listing.
Our prayers are with all students and teachers as they begin a new academic year! Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom, pray for us!

Lessons from the Holy Cross
by Mark A. Straub Sr.
Our Lady of the Woods Parish, Woodhaven, Michigan
(Originally published September 11, 2014)
On September 14th, we celebrate the feast day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells us: "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends" (John 15:13). That love is never more evident than our Lord's passion and death on the Cross. By that Holy Cross, we have been redeemed. Jesus Chris foretold his Passion to the Apostles, instituted the Eucharist at the Last Supper, and fulfilled God's plan for human salvation at Calvary upon that Holy Cross. This, my friends, is the greatest love ever known to humankind; by the grace of God, we will come to know the fullness of God's love in eternity. The promise of eternal salvation was made possible upon that Cross and we, as Catholics, are called to pick up our cross and follow Christ daily. This is a very hard thing to accomplish in today's world...

Our Lady of Sorrows
Memorial:
September 15th
Quote:
"At the cross her station keeping,
Stood the mournful mother weeping,
Close to Jesus to the last.
Through her heart, his sorrow sharing,
All his bitter anguish bearing,
Now at length the sword has passed."
(Stabat Mater)
