As we continue our pilgrimage through Advent, we reflect on Christ who will come again at the end of time and prepare to commemorate, again at Christmas, his first coming, the Incarnation.

Today, we celebrate his mother whose "yes", whose cooperation with God gave us the means of our salvation, as we will hear in the Gospel reading for the Solemnity. What we celebrate today, though, is her preparation for this "yes" from the time of her conception.  Her life points us always to her Son, showing us how to follow her Son and always be people of "yes" to God, rather than people of "no".  People of "yes" evangelize by their ways of witness that show trust and confidence in God who is Infinite Love.

In this Advent season and in the celebration of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, may we live our expectant waiting for the Messiah as a meditation on ways in which we can say an even more free and full "Yes" to Christ.

May the Charity of Christ urge us on!

In God, the Infinite Love,

Prayer on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Father,

The image of the Virgin is found in your Church.

Mary had a faith that your spirit prepared and a love that never knew sin,
for you kept her sinless from the first moment of her conception.

Trace in our actions the lines of her love, in our hearts her readiness of faith.

Prepare once again a world for your son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Amen

Pallottine Priests and Brothers of the
Immaculate Conception Province

The Catholic Apostolate Center is a ministry of the Immaculate Conception Province of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottines).

Inspired by Saint Vincent Pallotti's motto, "The love of Christ impels us," the Society of the Catholic Apostolate works throughout the world to further the Catholic Church's mission to renew faith and rekindle charity. As part of the Union of Catholic Apostolate, the Society of the Catholic Apostolate is a group of priests and brothers known as the Pallottines. Pallottine priests and brothers are a group of men who share a life of community, prayer and apostolic work. They follow the ideas of their founder, St. Vincent Pallotti, who wanted to reawaken faith and love among Catholics. Pallottines work to instill in others a deep conviction of their personal call to live the message of Jesus Christ.

Prayer Campaign to End Hunger

Early last week, Pope Francis asked for a worldwide "wave of prayer" against hunger at noon on Tuesday, December 10th. Caritas Internationalis, the Vatican-based federation of Catholic charities, is leading the initiative and inviting its global partners to join in this day of prayer. According to the Caritas website nearly 1 billion, or one in eight, people experienced chronic hunger or undernourishment in 2010-2012. Will you join us in praying for those who go hungry?

Don't Miss Out on Advent!
By Eileen Welch

This past Sunday marked the beginning of Advent, my favorite time of the year. What I love most about Advent is that it is four weeks long, and the opportunities to celebrate and prepare for Jesus' birth are abundant. But, many people forget this. Just last Friday, people lined up at midnight outside Wal-Mart and bought everything on their Christmas list in a six hour blur of big screen T.V.'s and elbows. Others rushed out to buy a Christmas tree, and decked their house in every last light they could find in the attack. And, by Friday evening, they were "done" preparing for Christmas and back to life as usual.

My own personal version of this would be when my grandma gives me one of those "Christmas Countdown Chocolate Calendars," the ones with a piece of chocolate behind each day leading up to Christmas - and it's gone by December 5th...
