Fr. Frank

This past weekend, several members of the Catholic Apostolate Center team had the privilege of joining with over 23,000 people in Indianapolis, Indiana at the National Catholic Collegiate Conference (NCCC) and the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC).  We gathered to deepen our faith in Jesus Christ and then go forth into the world witnessing faith and charity.  A clear message throughout the weekend was that we should not leave this work of evangelization to others, we all are responsible; we all are evangelizers. Each of us baptized is the new evangelization.  As Pope Francis challenges us to do throughout his apostolic exhortation,  Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel), we need to take up this mission given to us in baptism by Christ through living it and sharing it in our everyday lives.  Pope Francis tell us:

"All the baptized, whatever their position in the Church or their level of instruction in the faith, are agents of evangelization, and it would be insufficient to envisage a plan of evangelization to be carried out by professionals while the rest of the faithful would simply be passive recipients. The new evangelization calls for personal involvement on the part of each of the baptized. Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization; indeed, anyone who has truly experienced God's saving love does not need much time or lengthy training to go out and proclaim that love. Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are 'disciples' and 'missionaries', but rather that we are always 'missionary disciples'(Evangelii Gaudium, n. 120).

We are called to be involved personally, be transformed by Christ as well as evangelize others, and our culture.  Everyone is involved and engaged in way that witnesses faith and charity going forth as apostles or "missionary disciples". "By her very nature the Church is missionary; she abounds in effective charity and a compassion which understands, assists and promotes."  That is what we mean by "I am the #NEWEVANGELIZATION".

May the Charity of Christ urge us on!

I AM THE #NEWEVANGELIZATION

Over this past weekend at the National Catholic Collegiate Conference and the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis we had the opportunity to meet thousands of youth and young adults from across the country! Those who stopped by our booth received free gifts and over the weekend we handed out 150 tote bags, 180 water bottles, 1000 sunglasses, 1000 frisbees, 1000 chip clips and more. Across all of these items was emblazoned the phrase, "I AM THE #NEWEVANGELIZATION," which left many asking questions such as "What does this mean?" and "What is the New Evangelization?".

To find the answers to these questions we encourage you to click the "Read More" link below to find out more about our ministry. We really enjoyed meeting so many young people and if you have any questions or suggestions for our ministry feel free to e-mail us!

Hot Off The Presses: The Joy of the Gospel

Yesterday the Vatican released Pope Francis' first apostolic exhortation entitled Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel). An apostolic exhortation is typically published following a major Synod or global meeting of bishops. This exhortation contains Pope Francis' teaching on evangelization which include significant aspects of last October's synod on the new evangelization. Click here to see the latest news on this publication via our Pope Francis Portal or click the button below to read the full text!
Reflections on the Year of Faith

Recently our Director, Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C., gave an interview to the Zenit news outlet, reflecting on this past Year of Faith. In the interview Fr. Frank particularly emphasized that this Year of Faith, "...has been a spiritual opportunity to reflect on how we are living our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. A key message for all is deepening one's relationship with Jesus Christ and then going forth and witnessing in faith and charity."

Wisdom From the Saints

"As [Jesus] was walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is now called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, 'Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.' At once they left their nets and followed him"

Concluding the Year of Faith

As I sit here in an airport restaurant in Indianapolis on Sunday morning, the sun is just starting to rise over the tarmac. I have been here for the National Catholic Collegiate Conference (NC3) and the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) with other members of the Catholic Apostolate Center staff. Today also marks the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe and the closing of the Year of Faith.

Over 23,000 young people from across the country, mostly high school students, have been here since Thursday attending presentations, workshops, concerts, and liturgies of various kinds...
