The Prayer of Pope Francis

No doubt, you've likely heard about the Pope Francis' unprecedented 12,000 word interview that he recently gave to the Italian Jesuit news publication, La Civilta Cattolica. On Thursday, September 19 news journals across the globe, overseen by the Society of Jesus, published this interview in various different languages. Although soundbites have been taken and shared from different media outlets across the globe, Church leaders have been quick to encourage all of us to read this interview for ourselves. We, the staff here at the Catholic Apostolate Center, also encourage you to read this interview once (and even twice) while taking time to reflect and pray about how you can implement Pope Francis' message.

Pope Francis Speaks Out Against Abortion

The day following the release of Pope Francis' major interview, the Holy Father strongly affirmed the sacredness of unborn human life in an audience with Catholic gynecologists. In his talk, Pope Francis said, "In all its phases and at every age, human life is always sacred and always of quality. And not as a matter of faith, but of reason and science." This was noted as the Pope's strongest words to date on the topic of abortion.

Wisdom From the Saints

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, the truth;
Where there is doubt, the faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to
eternal life. Amen.

A Culture of Encounter Begins in our Own Hearts
By Patrick Finn
(Published Sept. 17, 2013)
Each of us can likely recall a short list of places in which the Lord has spoken to our hearts in a special way. A Eucharistic adoration chapel; one of my favorites, a beach town in the winter; a faraway mountaintop; or even a simple social hall can all be places of encounter with the Triune God. What is one such place for you?

My faraway mountaintop place of encounter with God can be found in Tuscany, three hours north of Rome on the Monte della Verna. This is a sanctuary, now in the care of the Order of Friars Minor, where on this day -September 17, 1224-Saint Francis received the Stigmata, the physical wounds of Christ Himself, on his hands and feet.
