"Go. Do not be afraid. Serve....

If you follow these three ideas, you will experience that the one who evangelizes is evangelized, the one who transmits the joy of faith receives joy."

It was with these words that Pope Francis encouraged the more than 3 million young people on Rio de Janeiro's famed Copacabana beach to go forth "making disciples of all nations," (Mt 28:19) in his homily at the closing mass of World Youth Day 2013. As seen in the above picture, his words were not lost on any small crowd but a diverse audience of young people from over 180 different countries across the globe.

Over the course of this past week, you might have been hearing parts of catechesis talks in Rio or catching headlines about the Holy Father's pilgrimage. Although we each have our busy schedules we hope that everyone might take the opportunity to read some of the addresses that Pope Francis delivered last week or some of the catechesis shared by some exceptional Church leaders. In this newsletter we have made every effort to collect as many of these resources from WYD 2013 and share them with you here.

While not all of us were able to participate in the World Youth Day festivities last week in Rio, each of us can participate in it's theme - "go and make disciples." Check out the resources below to find out how we can make this message resonate in our own lives and actions each day. Consider this a chance for you to experience WYD 2013 - from the comfort of your own desk!

7. Evangelize!

In light of last week's World Youth Day festivities, it is fitting that evangelization is the next element of living well the Year of Faith we examine. This past week it was hard not to notice just how captivated many in the secular media and press have been with Pope Francis' simple and personable style. He has attracted much attention, from his simple set of wheels (a small Fiat), his visit to one of Rio's poorer neighborhoods, and his genuine love to be among people of all backgrounds, colors and capabilities.

Note that much of this reaction comes before Pope Francis has even spoken a single word. It's in his actions that he conveys a very visual message of the gospel. However, each of us possesses the ability to develop a similar sense of attraction in our own lives. While none of us may have media coverage to pronounce each choice we make, we have the watchful eyes of our coworkers, friends and family members.

Placing the message of the gospel at the forefront of our lives so that it directs each of our actions, as witnesses of Christ, is evangelization at its core. Today people are searching for an authenticity that is often lacking in popular culture. Therefore the most telling sign of a person's witness often comes before they even say a word.

Together, let us offer up each day and ask our Lord to guide our every word and deed so that our witness may glorify Him.

 Wisdom from the Saints
"We are not the sum of our weaknesses and failures; we are the sum of the Father's love for us and our real capacity to become the image of his Son."

-Blessed John Paul II
(WYD 2002)
