Elections to be held January 3, 2016

We have eight candidates for the position of Vestry 2018. Each candidate has been asked to answer a few questions and submitted a photo. This information once received will be posted on the bulletin board in the parish hall.
Nominees are: Jeana Beeland, John Bennett, Stephanie Blevins, Tammy Borders, Sandra Fletcher, Duke Guthrie, Millie Johnson, and Molly Stevenson.
Vestry Elections will be held on January 3, 2016 during the Annual Parish meeting to be held immediately following the 10:00 a.m. worship service. |

Sunday, December 6, 2015 we invite anyone who has a birthday in the month of December to come forward during worship at the appropriate time of the service to receive a Birthday Prayer.

Lunch Bunch is will be on Saturday, December 5th.
The Christ Church Valdosta Lunch Bunch feeds 120 or more hungry children every first and third Saturday of the month. Workers from the church as well as other members of the community who volunteer gather at 11 a.m. at Christ Church to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. They pack them in plastic bags, then brown paper bags with logo stickers together with chips, fruit, juice and other healthy goodies purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Christ Church will be joining other churches in the Diocese of Georgia this Advent in reading former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams' book Being Christian. Christ Church will offer a Sunday school class in the Office Building the four Sundays of Advent to discuss the following topics from this book:
December 6 Bible - The Rev. Peter Ingeman (ret.)
December 13 Eucharist - Dr. Sheri Gravett
December 20 Prayer - The Rev. Dcn. Patricia Marks (ret.)
Williams writes "the book looks at what these activities tell us about the essence of Christian life and what kind of people we might hope to become in the community where these things are done."

| Father Dave's book The Grace of God Has Appeared will be available for purchase during coffee hour after church on Dec. 6 and Dec. 13 -- after that book purchases can be made in the church office, with all proceeds going toward the 2016 youth mission trip. The cost of each book is $10. |

Children's Christmas Party

All children (Pre-k3-5th grade) are invited to join us for a Children's Christmas party on December 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Education Building. Our kids will enjoy decorating cookies, playing games, making a Christmas ornament, observing a Christmas science experiment and, of course, hearing the Christmas story! Those children who will be participating in the Christmas pageant on December 20 will choose costumes and practice, as well. To volunteer or to RSVP, contact Stefani Carroll.

DR Mission Trip: May 9-16 2016

As you know, our 2016 mission trip to the Dominican Republic will take place on May 9-16, 2016. The procedures to purchase flight tickets with checked baggage on our two designated JetBlue flights have changed significantly since last year. The new instructions are on this information sheet:

Please note that January 31, 2016, is the deadline date to contact Julia or Julius to join the team and to purchase flight tickets. as of December 3, a round-trip set of tickets cost $433.60. Past experience has shown that this cost will steadily increase over time to approximately $700 in the spring of 2016.

Julius will be in the Dominican Republic from December 8-16, 2015, working on photography assignments and website development for the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic. While there, he will be spending two days at the Episcopal camp in El Pedregal where our mission team works. He'll be sure to visit the K-8 Episcopal school there and to get some new photographs of the 70 children who are attending school on scholarships we provided for the 2015-16 academic year.
