Lunch Bunch is will be on Saturday, November 21st.
The Christ Church Valdosta Lunch Bunch feeds 120 or more hungry children every first and third Saturday of the month. Workers from the church as well as other members of the community who volunteer gather at 11 a.m. at Christ Church to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. They pack them in plastic bags, then brown paper bags with logo stickers together with chips, fruit, juice and other healthy goodies purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank.
On Saturday, December 19, the Lunch Bunch group would like to give each child who comes to the delivery spots at Ora Lee West and Hudson Dockett housing projects a small gift for Christmas. We are looking for 120 small wrapped gifts under $5, the gift can be for a boy or a girl under the age of 14. We will have a collection box in the narthex, or you can drop them by the church office. Please have them to the church no later than Thursday, December 17, 2015. Thank you for your help. Please join us, on any 1st or 3rd Saturday.

Advent Wreath-Making Event
|
Sunday, November 29, 2015 - 11:15 a.m.
|
Our annual Advent Wreath-Making event is returning to the Sunday School hour (11:15 - 12:00) on the first Sunday of Advent (This will take the place of Sunday School on November 29, 2015). Please come join us as we begin the season of preparation for the birth of our Lord in this traditional, meaningful way. We will have a craft available for younger children, as well.
We also need assistance gathering the fresh greenery used in making the wreaths. The traditional, and symbolic greenery used include evergreens (pine, cedar and fir), bay laurel, rosemary, ivy and holly. If you are able to provide any of these, please contact Stefani Carroll.

DR Mission: Thank-You Notes
|
Thank-you notes to be displayed on November 22 |
The children of El Pedregal say "Gracias!" with their notes and drawings! The thank-you notes for their school scholarships will be displayed in the parish hall during coffee hour on Sunday, November 22. It costs $350 per year for a student to attend this K-8 Episcopal school, and our 2015 Dominican Republic mission team presented 70 full scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year. Funds for 50 scholarships were donated by missioners and other individuals or groups from Christ Church and 20 additional scholarships came from four other Episcopal churches: Church of the Nativity, Dothan AL; St. Matthew's, Orlando FL; St. Paul's, Savannah, GA; and Trinity, Statesboro, GA.
In addition to the display in the parish hall, all the thank-you notes are available online at the link below:
Our 2016 mission trip to the Dominican Republic will take place on May 9-16, 2016. For the trip planning page, click here. To join the team or for more information, contact Julia Ariail or Julius Ariail.

Foyer Groups (Supper Club)
|
Foyer Groups are being formed and will be starting up soon. For newcomers, or anyone not familiar with Foyer Groups - it is like a supper club. The groups will meet every other month (six times a year) in a different member's home, or a restaurant, or even the parish hall. This is a great way for newcomers to meet fellow parishioners. It is open to singles and couples, young and old (adults only). For more information or to sign up, contact Sallie Honeycutt or (417) 294-7796.

Christ Church will be joining other churches in the Diocese of Georgia this Advent in reading former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams' book Being Christian. Christ Church will offer a Sunday school class in the Office Building the four Sundays of Advent to discuss the following topics from this book:
November 29 Baptism - Dr. Jane Kinney
December 6 Bible - The Rev. Peter Ingeman (ret.)
December 13 Eucharist - Dr. Sheri Gravett
December 20 Prayer - The Rev. Dcn. Patricia Marks (ret.)
Williams writes "the book looks at what these activities tell us about the essence of Christian life and what kind of people we might hope to become in the community where these things are done."
You do not have to read the book to attend the sessions. The book can be purchased from Amazon for $8.70. For additional information, contact Maggie Roberts.
