Lunch Bunch
Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
Lunch Bunch is will be on Saturday, November 7th.

The Christ Church Valdosta Lunch Bunch feeds 120 or more hungry children every first and third Saturday of the month. Workers from the church as well as other members of the community who volunteer gather at 11 a.m. at Christ Church to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. They pack them in plastic bags, then brown paper bags with logo stickers together with chips, fruit, juice and other healthy goodies purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank.

On Saturday, December 19, the Lunch Bunch group would like to give each child who comes to the delivery spots at Ora Lee West and Hudson Dockett housing projects a small gift for Christmas. We are looking for 120 small wrapped gifts under $5, the gift can be for a boy or a girl under the age of 14. We will have a collection box in the narthex, or you can drop them by the church office.  Please have them to the church no later than Thursday, December 17, 2015.  Thank you for your help.

Please join us, on any 1st or 3rd Saturday.

Foyer Groups (Supper Club)
Foyer Groups are being formed and will be starting up soon. For newcomers, or anyone not familiar with Foyer Groups - it is like a supper club.  The groups will meet every other month (six times a year) in a different member's home, or a restaurant, or even the parish hall.  This is a great way for newcomers to meet fellow parishioners.  It is open to singles and couples, young and old (adults only).  For more information or to sign up, contact Sallie Honeycutt or (417) 294-7796.
Advent Opportunity
Begins Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 11:15
Christ Church will be joining other churches in the Diocese of Georgia this Advent in reading former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams' book Being Christian during.  Christ Church will offer a Sunday school class the four Sundays of Advent to discuss the following topics from this book:
     November 29 Baptism
     December 6 Bible
     December 13 Eucharist
     December 20 Prayer
Williams writes "the book looks at what these activities tell us about the essence of Christian life and what kind of people we might hope to become in the community where these things are done."
You do not have to read the book to attend the sessions.  The book can be purchased from Amazon for $8.70.  For additional information, contact Maggie Roberts.
Save The Date: DR May 9-16 2016
Dates have been set for our 2016 mission trip
Our 2016 mission trip to the Dominican Republic will take place on May 9-16, 2016. Missioners will need to plan to come to Orlando on the afternoon of Sunday, May 8, for a team meeting and to overnight for the flight to Santo Domingo on the 9th. Missioners will arrive back in Orlando and exit US Immigration and Customs control points around 12 noon on the 16th, in time to drive home without having to stay overnight in Orlando.

We will be returning to the Dominican Episcopal camp and conference center in the village of El Pedregal, a facility very similar to our Honey Creek facility in the Diocese of Georgia. Projects are still in the very early planning stage, but may include re-painting the playground structure we built in June 2014 in partnership with the youth team from the Diocese of Nebraska, installing screens in the dining hall, VBS-type activities with the local children, and of course our traditional knitting, crocheting, and sewing classes.

Watch this space next week for more information on how to join the team and purchase flight tickets for our round-trip flights between Orlando and Santo Domingo. For more information now, contact Julia Ariail or Julius Ariail. For information about our 2015 trip, click here.
