Christmas at Christ Church
|
St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge
|
Thursday, January 1, 2015
|
Come join us for the 30th birding/eating celebration of the New Year at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge this January 1, 2015. Meet us there or join up at 8 a.m. in the Christ Church parking lot to form a caravan. We'll see the many ducks, wading birds, and bald eagles that winter at St. Marks. Bring food to share for a noon picnic. In mid-afternoon we'll head to Wakulla Springs for a boat tour and hope to see manatees along with the many birds and gators there. We'll end the day with a seafood dinner at Spring Creek Restaurant. Come for all or part of the day. Call Phyllis Hiers (244-5942) for more information. The online Vineyard has maps and information.

DR Mission Team Almost Full |
18 Committed to Join the Team |
Thank you for the very positive early response to our appeal to commit to join the 2015 DR Mission Team. Eighteen people have signed up to go on the trip. Six former missioners are in a "maybe" status and will let us know their decision soon. Three others are on a waiting list. The ideal maximum size of our team is 24 because of the chartered bus size from Santo Domingo to El Pedregal. Each team member pays for his or her own airline ticket and team fees or is sponsored by a donor. The fees pay for the costs of the construction projects, knitting classes and the party for the children of El Pedregal. We will have a dinner and auction in the spring to raise money for the Episcopal school scholarships.
For more information about the trip, check the planning page.

The Bible In A Year - Study Challenge
|
The Bible in a Year Challenge: A Virtual Academic Study
START DATE: 5 January 2015
YOUR GUIDE: Sandie Gravett -- Professor of Religious Studies
at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
THE GOAL: Read the Complete Bible in One Year (Monday-
Saturday schedule) AND get some insight on
academic study of the text. The passages each day will be manageable (3 to 4 chapters); every day includes both the Hebrew Bible and New Testament.
HOW IT WORKS: A message will go out EVERY day on
THREE social media outlets (see below). On the blog (and it will be linked to Facebook and Twitter), Sandie will write from an academic perspective about the passage or the Bible in general (including its history, reception, key ideas, contemporary applications, etc.). She will link you to videos and other support resources. The result? A short course in academic biblical studies every day you want to check in and see what is happening. Discussion (in all media) is encouraged!
THE SOCIAL MEDIA SITES: Choose the option that works for
you.
Facebook: Sandie Daily Bible
To join, send a "Friend" request to "Sandie Daily Bible."
Twitter: Follow @sandiebible (https://twitter.com/sandiebible )
Blog: Sandies Bible Blog
You can just check in on your own, or you can follow it by email (hit the "Follow Blog By Email" link on the left hand side of the front page). If you choose the latter, every new post will come to you.
WHO CAN JOIN: All Are Welcome.
The content will be suitable for mature teens to senior adults.
Feel free to challenge someone in your life!
