In El Pedregal, our mission field
|
Last week our Dominican Republic mission team received a set of photographs from El Pedregal showing the blessing of the house that we built in June 2014 in partnership with another mission team from the Diocese of Nebraska. The house blessing occurred on Sunday, July 6, and photographs of the event have just been posted online by a village resident. The images show Padre lvaro Yepes, the vicar of the Episcopal Church of the Mount of the Transfiguration in El Pedregal, along with the homeowner, Jackeline Almonte, and members of the local Episcopal congregation. Jackeline and her family are now living in the new house. In the words of Padre lvaro's wife, ngela Maria, they are now living "with dignity" in their new concrete-block house, which replaced an older structure of wooden planks, poles, and sheets of plywood and particle board. The older structure had been built on a low-lying site that frequently flooded in rainstorms, so the new house's foundation was raised to help avoid that flooding problem in the future. The photographs of the house blessing are available here.
The photographs from our June 2014 mission trip that include images of the house construction are here.
Planning for our 2015 mission trip will begin soon. For more information, contact Julia Ariail or Helen Tucker.
