15 Members Representing 6 Episcopal Dioceses
|
The 15 members of the Christ Church DR Mission team arrived back in the United States last Saturday, June 14. The trip was very successful with the team completing the walls on the house construction, 3 towers on the playground equipment, 5 classes for knitting and crocheting, a splash party for 200 children, and a festive dinner with local church members. The house and the playground will be completed by a mission team from Nebraska arriving June 23.
Thanks to ALL the people who are part of our "Home Team," who contributed funds for projects, supplies, and school scholarships as well as praying for us while we were out of the country. An article about the trip with some photos is available in From the Field. Julius Ariail is editing more trip photos which will be posted on Christ Church Facebook and in our website's online photo album by June 27.
One of our team members, Paul Stevenson, came home with symptoms of what may be a tropical-related illness. He is currently being treated by a tropical disease specialist here in Valdosta. Please pray for his speedy and thorough recovery.

Rector's Forum - Please join Father Dave at 9:00 on June 29th during the Sunday School hour as he shares with us his vision for Christ Church. This will be our first opportunity to hear from our new rector, so please come early, get a cup of coffee, and join us in the Parish Hall! We will also have a social hour following the 10:00 service so that we all will have an opportunity to meet and greet the Johnson family personally. |

Lunch Bunch is this Saturday, June 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the parish hall. Please stop by the parish hall and help prepare 125 bag lunches. If you haven't helped before, it is a fun, easy way to meet fellow parishioners and help those in need.
If you cannot make it on the 21st, here are some future dates: July 5th, July 19th, August 2nd and August 16th. Please mark your calendar and plan to help out one Saturday.

The Ministries Committee is working together with the South Georgia Partnership to End Homelessness to provide school supplies. Christ Church has been asked to provide notebook paper (Wide Rule and College Rule) for the 1,000 backpacks. We are only in need of notebook paper. Other organizations are collecting certain items as well. There will be a box in the nave of the Sanctuary for the months of June and July. If you would prefer to make a monetary donation to help this cause, please make checks to Christ Church and denote that it is for notebook paper.

The Community Depot has just completed its first year in community outreach. We would like to thank Christ Church for your participation, support and assistance. We look forward to serving you in the coming years.
If you would like to donate to The Community Depot, we do pick-ups. To schedule an appointment for donations, please contact Phyllis Hiers, Bobbie Warren, or Ralph Jackson at 229-561-9343.

Local Project to support Lunch Bunch ministry
|
I began thinking...what better a ministry for our Stitchers than to support another important Christ Church ministry! Let's make scarves for Lunch Bunch children.
I work with the Lunch Bunch children most weeks, and I believe it is best to create simple scarves from either a worsted weight or bulky yarn. If we make some of the scarves with "fancy" yarn or "fancy" stitches, then some children may envy others' scarves. So let's use a simple "knit all stitches" pattern or a single or double crochet.
I have already made a few and found that I got a nice child's scarf by casting on 16 stitches in size 11 needles. (I was using some bulky stash yarn). My scarves are about 44 inches long and 5 inches wide. Of course, we have children from age 2 to adolescent, so gauge really does not matter.
