Greetings!
Welcome to Families First, the CNF e-newsletter for parents and  caregivers of children with neurologic conditions. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the families, clinicians, caregivers, and community members, to the advocacy and industry partner representatives, to the child neurologists and physicians, and to our honorees - John and Laurian Scott - and the entire Scott family for contributing to the success of the child neurology Heroes Dinner on Saturday, November 8th.

Your generosity, support, and presence made for such a special celebration of the parent-provider partnership in the delivery of optimal care to children living with neurologic conditions. Yet, amid the sparkling lights and revelry, there was a solemn resolve that, as a community, we can and must do more to ensure that, one day, our children are forever free of the threat of brain disease, and, unto that end, despite the circumstances, we must become the Hero within...after all, our children deserve to see Heroes every day.
INFANTILE SPASMS AWARENESS WEEK
December 5-11, 2014

In 2009, the Child Neurology Foundation proudly announced the
creation of Infantile Spasms Awareness Week (ISAW). The goal of ISAW is to provide pediatricians, child neurologists, parents, and caregivers with objective educational tools that aim to increase
awareness and understanding of infantile spasms (IS). Early and appropriate treatment can greatly impact the prognosis
of infants diagnosed with IS, and this important educational initiative aims to ensure that physicians are equipped to assess the symptoms of IS, accurately diagnose the condition, and implement the proper
course of treatment. In addition, ISAW serves to provide
information, resources, and support caregivers
of children living
with IS.
INFANTILE SPASMS ADVOCACY AWARD
NOMINATION OPPORTUNITY

The Child Neurology Foundation (CNF) seeks nominations for the 2014 Infantile Spasms (IS) Heroes Award.

Are you a parent or caregiver caring for a

child with infantile spasms? Has your child's life been positively affected by a healthcare professional who helped diagnose or treat your child's infantile spasms?

As part of the 2014 Infantile Spasms Awareness Week (December 5-11, 2014), CNF will award one heroic healthcare professional and his/her medical institution with the "Infantile Spasms Heroes Award." The IS Heroes Award was established in 2010 by the Child Neurology Foundation (CNF) to recognize a deserving healthcare professional for making a positive difference in the life of a child with infantile spasms.

Nominees can include any healthcare professional who has made a positive difference in the life of a child with infantile spasms by embodying the heroic spirit of quality, compassionate, and efficacious care during diagnosis or treatment of IS.

All nominations must be submitted via an online form by Sunday, November 23, 2014 on the Child Neurology Foundation's IS website: http://www.infantilespasmsinfo.org/nomination_form.php

Nominations should tell us about your child and your story with infantile spasms as well as why your nominee deserves recognition as an IS Hero. What makes this person special? What did they do to help your child and your family? How is this person advancing the understanding of IS?

The winner will be recognized at an evening reception hosted by the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance on Friday, December 5th at the American Epilepsy Society annual meeting in Seattle, WA.
