Lenten Almsgiving

Lent 2015: Clean Air Kitchens

For centuries the Church has ramped up Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving during Lent, our most solemn season.  This year, Campus Ministry invites the Rockhurst Community to join in a concerted almsgiving effort by donating to Clean Air Kitchens.  Clean Air Kitchens is a program that puts stoves with proper ventilation into the homes of rural Nicaraguans, most of whom cook over indoor open fires, the smoke from which causes serious respiratory illness.   The program is administered through Amigos for Christ, an agency with which Rockhurst partners for winter and spring break service trips.  Danny Duggan, a 2014 Rockhurst University graduate, currently serves as a long-term volunteer with Amigos for Christ.

Please view this video about Clean Air Kitchens.  Bring your donations to Campus Ministry between Ash Wednesday (February 18) and Easter Sunday (April 5). Make checks payable to "Rockhurst University" with Clean Air Kitchens as a memo.

Kansas City Fellows Program

The Kansas City Fellows (KCF) program is a nine-month Christian leadership program designed to help recent college graduates explore the intersection of Faith, Work, and Community.

With a goal of laying a firm foundation, this leadership program equips Fellows to have a faithful presence for Christ in their community and world.

Catholics on Call

Catholics on Call is now accepting applications for its 2015 Young Adult Summer Conference

Catholics on Call invites young people, ages 18-30, who are considering a life of service in the Church to join them for their 2015 young adult summer conference. Participants will have the opportunity to connect and pray with other like-minded young adults, to hear nationally-known speakers, discuss how to listen to God's call, and to learn valuable skills that will help them to discern their vocation, whether it be to priesthood, religious life or lay ecclesial ministry.

This five-day conference will take place from August 4-8, 2015 at Catholic Theological Union in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Registration fee is $100 and includes room and board. For an application please visit www.catholicsoncall.org or for more information contact Catholics on Call at [email protected] or 773.371.5431
Year of Consecrated Life

November 30, 2014 - February 2, 2016 is dedicated as the Year for Consecrated Life.  To mark this year and to invite each of us to prayerfully and intentionally consider our own vocation, throughout this year, we include in "The Companion" a brief quote to be used for prayer and reflection.

At last I have found my vocation: My vocation is love.

-Saint Thrse of Lisieux

A Prayer

 A Prayer for Holy Week

Lord Jesus Christ,

in this sacred and solemn week

when we see again

the depth and mystery of your redeeming love,

help us to follow where you go,

to stop where you stumble,

to listen when you cry,

to hurt as you suffer,

to bow our heads in sorrow as you die,

so that, when you are raised to life again,

we may share in your endless joy. Amen.
