The Companion

Weekly E-Bulletin of
Rockhurst University's Campus Ministry

August 17, 2014
WELCOME, New Students!
From the Director's Desk . . .

I would like to welcome each of you to the Rockhurst University experience.  The Campus Ministry staff looks forward to meeting each of you in the days ahead.  No matter what faith you profess, you are welcome to participate in all Campus Ministry programs.

In addition to liturgies and prayer services, we provide many opportunities for you to get connected----retreats, service, CLC's (Christian Life Communities), Pasta & Prayer, Liturgical Ministry, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and many more. Several of our programs have been started or become strengthened because of students sharing their ideas.  So, we welcome all of your dreams and desires that you bring with you!

My hope and prayer for you is that you will be attentive to God's dynamic action in your life as you start this new chapter in your faith journey!

Blessings,

Maureen Henderson

We want to hear from YOU!

Cura Personalis:
The Year's Theme

This year, as a university community, we will uniquely engage the core value of Cura Personalis, the theme for this academic year.

What is Cura Personalis?

A hallmark of Ignatian spirituality and therefore of Jesuit education, Cura Personalis is an attitude of respect for the dignity of each individual, one's self included.  It derives from the Judeo-Christian vision of human beings as unique creations of humanity, and of human destiny as ultimate communion with God in everlasting life.

At Rockhurst University, we are committed to caring for others in and outside of the classroom; therefore, we strive to help people:

  • understand their inherent human dignity
  • reach their greatest potential
  • share their experience and knowledge with others
  • act in a way that reflects this growth
A Prayer
A Prayer for College Students
- Cardinal John Henry Newman

God has created me to do some definite service; God has committed some work to me which has not yet been committed to another.  I have my mission -- I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next.

I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.
God has not created me for naught.  I shall do good.  I shall do God's work.  I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place.

Whatever, wherever I am, I can never be thrown away.  If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve the Lord; in perplexity, my perplexity may serve the Lord; if I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve the Lord.  God does nothing in vain.  Therefore I will trust the Lord.

Amen.
