Lent Calendar

Hello Hawks! As we embrace this Lenten season, Campus
Ministry encourages you to seek out opportunities to deepen your faith.  Take a look at the Lenten Calendar
Reconciliation-Lenten Hours

Good News! For the Lenten Season,
Campus Ministry is offering extended
Reconciliation hours on Mondays from
8-9:45 in the Mabee Chapel.

Lenten Offering:

Liturgy of the Hours

If you are interested in learning how to lead the prayer, please contact Ryan Smith.  Students, staff and faculty are welcome to assist.  Also, praying the Liturgy of the Hours is a Christian tradition, not explicitly Catholic; thus, you needn't be Catholic to participate.
Watcr for Duchity
For our Lenten Almsgiving offering, Campus Ministry is partnering with a student effort to bring clean water to the village of Duchity, Haiti, where residents currently drink from a cesspool of a water source. Monies raised through our Lenten Water Bottle Piggy Banks will be used to purchase water filters that would bolster health and the local economy: the one-piece filters are Haitian-made.

The piggy banks will be made available at Ash Wednesday Masses and at the first student liturgy of Lent - then simply bring your (full!) piggy bank to Campus Ministry at the end of Lent!
Eucharistic Adoration
Eucharistic Adoration will be offered February 25th. Stop by for prayer and sign up for a specific hour at Campus Ministry or outside the chapel.

Vocation Station
Are you considering post-grad service, discerning vowed religious life, or thinking about an advanced degree in ministry or theology?  If so, keep an eye on the "Vocation Station" bulletin board outside of the Campus Ministry offices.  This board is kept up-to-date with information on upcoming discernment weekends, various opportunities and a variety of schools, religious orders and volunteer programs.

(if you want to see this the right way...either hold up a mirror. OR COME CHECK IT OUT!!)

Stop by to check it out!  Also know that the Campus Ministry staff is here to walk with you through your discernment process.  Please let us know how we may best support you.

Question of the Week

question mark

This Week's Question:
Why do Catholics sacrifice meat on Fridays and not another type of food?

Last Week's Answer: The palms from Palm Sunday are used to create the ashes for Ash Wednesday

And the Winner is . . . Erika Stuchlik!

Send your answer to Cindy Schmersal by 9:00am on Wednesday.  Of those students who respond, one will be chosen at random to receive a free (and delicious!) twister from the Pub.  The winner will be announced in the following week's bulletin.

The Sacraments: Holy Orders

The Church adopted the term order from its use in the Roman Empire, where it referred to a governing group.  In the Sacrament of Holy Orders, there are three degrees or "orders": bishop, priest, and deacon.  The rite of ordination is the sacramental act that makes this possible.  Ordination "confers a gift of the Holy Spirit that permist the exercise of a 'sacred power'...which can come only from Christ himself through the Church" (CCC, no. 1538).

The first priest figure to appear in the Old Testament is Melchizedek, who offered a sacrifice of bread and wine on behalf

-From the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults

A Prayer for the beginning of Lent
I choose to breathe the breath of Christ

that makes all life holy.

I choose to live the flesh of Christ

that outlasts sin's corrosion and decay.

I choose the blood of Christ
along my veins and in my heart

that dizzies me with joy.

I choose the living waters flowing from his side

to wash and clean my own self and the world itself.

I choose the awful agony of Christ
to charge my senseless sorrows with meaning

and to make my pain pregnant with power.

I choose you, good Jesus, you know.

I choose you, good Lord;
count me among the victories

that you have won in bitter woundedness.

Never number me among those alien to you.

Make me safe from all that seeks to destroy me.

Summon me to come to you.

Stand me solid among angels and saints
chanting yes to all you have done,

exulting in all you mean to do forever and ever.

Then for this time, Father of all,
keep me, from the core of my self,

choosing Christ in the world.  Amen.
