Child's Voice is thrilled to have launched the Pediatric Early Hearing & Intervention (PEHDI) Program this month! This exciting new effort will provide testing to newborns and infants to determine if a hearing loss is present. Through the generosity of the Service Club of Chicago, Child's Voice now offers Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing. This non-invasive test allows for in-depth, diagnostic results all while a child sleeps or eats or snuggles in a parent's arms, a stroller or a crib. Dr. Dawn Violetto, the Director of Audiology, will also manage the PEHDI Program. "Getting tested is the key. But the benefit of being tested at Child's Voice is not only complete diagnostic information, but also the environment," stated Dr. Dawn. "Parking is available, our location is accessible from a number of highways and it's not a clinical environment. Children are in our hallways, parents are in the waiting area. It's a friendly, welcoming place to be." READ MORE...

Matching their interest in helping children is their passion for making a difference in their community and helping causes related to hearing and vision, the mission of Lions Clubs. You can make a difference, not only through financial support, but also through donating your time and your talents! Did you know there are many ways to support Child's Voice? In the coming months, we'll share some ways to get involved at Child's Voice and make a difference in the life of a child with hearing loss. Read More...

Getting to Know... Child's Voice Leadership Team
Bill Hinkle, Business ManagerBill has been part of the Child's Voice team for twelve years. He originally found out about the great things that happen at Child's Voice when his nephew attended and graduated from Child's Voice in 2001. Bill shared, "Seeing the progress and success of our many students and graduates has been a very gratifying experience." As Business Manager, Bill is responsible for all financial and accounting duties and controls, including budgeting, investments, audits, insurance, payroll and retirement plan administration. Another piece of his position is keeping the building habitable and safe by monitoring the building and grounds upkeep and repairs as well as arranging for service contractors. Bill graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of Illinois, he then served in the United States Navy. Following his service, Bill worked for PriceWaterhouse Coopers, IBM, Harris Corporation, Audico, Inc. and Regents Park in Hyde Park. He currently resides in Glenview, but grew up in nearby Wilmette, where he met his wife Jane in biology class at New Trier High School. They have been married for 56 years and have three daughters, Connie (Bucktown), Susan (Athens, OH) and Betsy (Venice, CA). Bill and Jane are the proud grandparents to John, a junior at Ohio State University and Billy, a senior in high school. When not busy at Child's Voice, Bill and Jane can be found volunteering as ushers at a number of Chicago's theatres for roughly 40 performances each year. Bill also plays bridge and is an avid runner, entering 5K races throughout the summer months. Thank you Bill for all you do to keep Child's Voice safe and running smoothly!

From Dr. Michele
Listening to Donors; Listening to You
We know each donor/individual is unique, and therefore it is important for us to spend time listening to you and finding out why you feel motivated to support the mission of Child's Voice. Theories on Giving describe this complexity when referring to the rationale behind the Identification Theory, saying that participants, "...typically could recall a specific moment in time when the identification with another was a life-changing event, motivating a caring response, and leading to a longer term commitment to philanthropy." (Schervish & Havens 2002) Hearing from you, while we keep the basic ideas of motivation in mind, will allow us to connect personally and professionally with you and will result in you being more committed to the values of Child's Voice. Ask yourself-what has happened in your life that connects you to the mission and values of Child's Voice? Now, share that happening with us. In fact, share that experience with others too. Help spread the word of our work and share all our success stories. Child's Voice has much to celebrate. We'd like to include your stories in our celebration. We are always looking for ways to expand our reach motivating others to join our 'Child's Voice Family' of donors. Hope we'll be hearing from you. -Michele
